TurboTax Deals at Amazon, Sam’s Club, Costco: Deluxe Federal & State + $10 Bonus (Cyber Monday Only)

(Update #3: Sam’s Club joins with TurboTax Deluxe Fed+State for $45.99 w/ $10 Add-on credit. Works out if you plan on paying for State e-File anyway. Ends 12/2.

Update #2: Costco also has TurboTax Deluxe Fed+State for $45.99 w/ $10 Add-on credit, so instead of a $10 Amazon credit you get a $10 credit towards a future TurboTax add-on like State e-File. Compare prices to Amazon for Premier and Business. Ends 12/2.)

Update: The prices keep changing. Check Amazon again on Cyber Monday. The benefit of “old-school” desktop tax software is that it doesn’t require your Social Security Number and income details to be stored in the “cloud”, a fancy word for a third-party server where it can be copied or hacked.

Amazon has listings for both the products alone and in a bundle with a $10 Amazon gift card. The prices for both keep changing, so I won’t list them anymore, but I would recommend checking on actual Cyber Monday as that is also historically the lowest net price. Or compare and go with the Costco deal below if you know you’ll pay the state e-File fee.

The products alone:

The bundles:

You also get 5 Federal e-Files so you can file taxes for other family member in your household. (Click here to view the Amazon links if you can’t see them.)

State e-File is extra (now $25 per state). I would personally just print the (usually shorter) state return out and snail mail it in if you don’t have a free State e-File option.

Note that TurboTax Deluxe lets you manually input stock gain/loss information, but does not include “guidance”. For that, they’ll try to nudge you to upgrade to Premier. This is what makes H&R Block Deluxe a more affordable alternative (as it does include guidance for stock sales), if you are willing to make the switch. However, I also understand the urge to stick with what works and TurboTax does offer auto-import of many 1099 forms.

  1. will Deluxe allow me to download transactions from my fidelity brokage account?

  2. Can I use it for a schedule C business?

    • You’ll need the business version if you want them to guide you through all the details of multiple transactions. Otherwise it may handle simple 1099-MISC forms.

    • Money Blog Fan says

Yes. It does Schedule C and all the related forms (business use of car, office in home, self-employment tax, etc.). I use it every year for my Sch. C business without any problem. I don’t think it will create/print 1099’s if you need to issue them for vendors you paid, but you can always do those stand-alone.

  3. Does this deal go live tomorrow (cyber Monday)? It’s currently showing $55.99 with $10 gift card

    • It was advertised as a “Cyber Monday” deal on Saturday after Black Friday, so I assumed it was an early release deal. However, maybe it was just a preview and the deal will go live again on Cyber Monday. I would personally wait and check again on Cyber Monday.

  4. It appears that the software needs an Intuit account, so you can no longer share with others?

    • My (update: wrong) assumption is you can just sign in with a different Intuit account on each device that you install the software. You can install on five different devices.

      • Here is the e-mail I received earlier this year from Inutuit. Most comments suggest only one Intuit account per license code. Sure, you can install it on FIVE computers, but it seems you need to use the same account.

        Hi there,

We’re reaching out to our TurboTax Desktop customers to share an important change to how you’ll install and activate your software this upcoming 2023 tax season.

To install and activate TurboTax 2023 on your computer, you’ll be prompted to sign in to your existing Intuit Account (or create an account if you don’t already have one) before entering your license code. The software won’t install unless you sign in to your Intuit Account online. Importantly, your product license code can only be associated with one Intuit Account.

Your license code will then be stored in your Intuit Account, should you need to install the software again.

If you forgot your user ID or password, or need additional assistance logging in to your Intuit Account, this article will provide you with helpful steps.

For more information on product installation and activation, go to TurboTaxHelp.com.

Thanks for being part of the TurboTax family.

        Warm regards,

        • Thanks for the follow-up, I stand corrected. Looks like they will still allow 5 federal e-files and it’s meant for you to help file taxes on behalf of and/or share with your family/household members that are close to you (i.e not strangers over the internet). So I guess this is their newest way to make it more restrictive. (People in the past might pass around the install disc…) Now, you’d have to trust someone with your Intuit account login details if installed on their computer, or you’d need to have them file the taxes on your computer (if you’re not filing for them).

  5. I read somewhere that deluxe cannot do schedule d which is required for stock sales, is that true?

  6. Looks like this deal is a bust. You can buy TurboTax on Amazon for 45.99, or purchase it for 55.99 and get a $10 ‘gift’ card by paying $10 more. Costco has the Premier version for 72.99 + $10 of ‘product credit’.

  7. There is no $10 gift card offer from Amazon
    As 5pm 11/27/23

  8. Get if from Costco. Deluxe – $45 (after $11 discount), and you also get a $10 credit to use for in-product add-ons (e.g. State E-filing, Audit Defense).

  9. Bumping this… Fidelity’s page shows I’m eligible for the free TurboTax but it’s not available yet. When it does become available I’ll update it if someone notices first please post here.

  10. Money Blog Fan says

Costco has Deluxe with state for $45.99 PLUS you get a $10 in-product credit to use for state e-file or whatever. So that’s a better deal than Amazon.

    • Thanks! Added it to the post. It looks like Amazon’s Black Friday deal wasn’t actually the best deal, as today their deal is the same price but with a $10 Amazon gift card added in. I’d rather have the $10 Amazon GC than a potential $10 addon credit, but the Costco deal may last longer as it says good until 12/2.

  11. Federal only appears as $47.99, not $37.99, w/ $10 Amazon gift card included. Better off searching Amazon’s Cyber Monday deals and purchasing the product for $37.99 w/o the gift card bundle.

  12. I usually get the Home and Business, which one is most similar to that?

  13. I’ve always used turbo tax web-based system. I assume if I download the program and sign into my account, it will download last years returns/information? Can someone confirm.

  14. will there be better pricing after Xmas?

    • History says yes, but we won’t know for sure until it happens. Usually live for 24 hours during the rolling week between Christmas and New Year’s.
