Updated with new offer. Truist Bank formed from the merger of BB&T and Suntrust Banks, now roughly the 10th largest US bank with branches in 17 states and DC. Trust has a new $400 checking bonus for new checking customers that have a mailing address within a state in their branch footprint: AL, AR, GA, FL, IN, KY, MD, MS, NC, NJ, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, WV or DC. I usually don’t list bonuses that aren’t nationwide, but this is a sizable bonus with a large regional bank. If I lived in this area, I’d certainly rather open an account when they are giving out 400 bucks. Here are the steps:

  • Open a new Truist One Checking account online from 2/28/24 through 6/26/24. Minimum opening deposit is $50. Must open online with promo code TRUIST400DC24.
  • Receive at least one qualifying Direct Deposit* of $500 or more, AND
  • Complete at least 15 qualifying debit card purchases** within 90 days of account opening. All debit purchases must be posted to your account to qualify.

Note the following definitions for new customers:

Clients that are the primary account holder on an existing personal checking account with Truist or who have closed a personal checking account with Truist on or after 2/28/23 are not eligible to participate.

The Truist One Checking account has a $12 monthly maintenance fees that is waived each statement cycle by any one of the following:

  • $500+ in total qualifying Direct Deposits
  • Maintain a total combined ledger balance of $500 or more in Truist related accounts across personal deposits (excluding Truist HSA) and all investments as reflected on the business day before your statement cycle end date.
  • Having a personal Truist credit card, mortgage or consumer loan, excluding LightStream®.
  • Having a linked Small Business Checking Account.
  • Students under the age of 25.

Comments

  1. When they say offer is good till July 14th, should the account be opened by then, or should the 2 direct deposits be completed by then?

  2. I see 2 different codes on different sites, but none on Truist official site.

Which code really works when you open Checking Acc. with Direct deposit?

  3. I signed up for the account and just found out that there is a $3-$6 outgoing ACH transfer fee by Truist. The rep advised me to use Zelle to transfer out. Transfer in is no charge.

    • Or you use an outside bank (that doesn’t charge fees, most online-only banks don’t) to initiate the transfer out. The fee is applied if you initiate the transfer at Truist.

  4. After opening the account, I used their chat and got confirmation from a rep that ACH transfers from TD Ameritrade qualifies for 2 direct deposits. 2 days later, I asked the same question to another rep in the chat who said NO, only employer or government direct deposits will qualify. I closed the account. What a waste of time.

    • In this type of case, there is no use in asking a customer service rep. They aren’t the ones making the decision and they don’t know the answer. If you had waited, it probably would have worked out fine.

  5. Thank you for sharing this offer. I recently completed it and received the $300 into my account. I wonder how long I have to keep the account open now. Sometimes there is a stipulation on that, but I don’t see one in the fine print.

  6. How long between your 2nd direct deposit until the $300 bonus received?

Did you make transfer from other bank’s account for direct deposit?

I completed 2nd deposit in July, have not received the bonus yet.

  7. I’m pretty pissed. I opened my account on 7/14/22 and completed the requirements. I called Truist about a month ago and they stated that I was showing I would be getting the promotion and that I just needed to wait the full 90 days. That time frame has passed so I am calling to check up on it and they are telling me I won’t get the $300 because the promotion is expired. Huh?!? I opened my account prior to the deadline, that doesn’t even make any sense! #FalseAdvertising #TruistSucks

  8. My roommate opened a Truist account late 2023..She did the direct depost with her social security…Shorty after opeing the account, the account with the promotion was closed..She reopened it…I knew there was a problem..She continued for a few more DD’s…They never credited her with $300…Trusit even charged a couple bogus fees on to it…Hope it was a one off and not a pattern…If 1 million people open an account for the $300 bonus, Truist will be out $300 million

  9. Has anyone found a way to generate direct deposits that count toward bank offers like this one, if you are self employed and don’t have an employer to direct deposit your W-2 income?

  10. FYI, I opened this promo online a year ago. They would only verify me in person even though my account was approved online with my deposit money. There is no branch within 100 miles of my home. Ironically, I opened an account with Truist two years ago in person while travelling to my hometown in PA.

Point being, although I was a former customer and my account was approved, they still wanted me to come in person. I closed the account and received my deposit money via US mail.
