$5,000 Cash & Two iPads Holiday Giveaway from MyMoneyBlog (Winner Announcement)

My Money Blog has partnered with CardRatings and may receive a commission from card issuers. Some or all of the card offers that appear on this site are from advertisers and may impact how and where card products appear on the site. MyMoneyBlog.com does not include all card companies or all available card offers. All opinions expressed are the author’s alone.

Winner Announcement! The contest is now over. Congratulations to Devin A. and Julia D., the lucky winners of $2,500 and an iPad 2. You should have received an e-mail notification to your registered e-mail address. Thanks to all who entered, I hope to do it again next year.

‘Tis the season of giving so I’ve decided to award two lucky MyMoneyBlog readers with $2,500 in cold hard cash!  And as an added bonus, each winner will receive a brand new iPad 2 (64gb).  Yes, really! I don’t think you’ll find a richer giveaway on the web so please tell your friends, family and coworkers to get an entry in!   Winners will be selected at random on the morning of Wednesday, December 21st and to enter the giveaway, you need to follow two simple steps:

  1. Complete a short 10-question multiple choice survey which will help me understand your credit card preferences better in 2012.  Remember to hit the blue arrow on the bottom right of the survey so your survey is submitted!
  2. Subscribe to the MyMoneyBlog RSS feed by e-mail.  I know that many of you may already subscribe in other ways, but this is the only way that I can actually track. I want to reward regular readers, not just one-time visitors. If you’re already subscribed, then half of your entry is complete!

The email address you register when completing the survey must match the email address you use to subscribe to my RSS feed.  Unfortunately, if you are selected and I can’t find your email address in both places, you will forfeit the prize so please make sure to enter your email address carefully, because this is how you will be contacted.  When entering your name and email address on the survey, the information will only be used to select a winner for this giveaway.  All personal information is 100% secure and will not be used for any other purpose.

The obligatory fine print… please read!

  • Only one entry per person / two per household will be accepted.  US residents only. Exceeding this limit will result in the forfeiture of winnings if you are randomly selected.
  • A W-9 form must be submitted in order to receive your prize.  It’s free money, but I’ve still got to follow IRS rules.
  • Entrants have 10 days to claim their prize and submit their W-9 (even during the holiday season).  If 10 days pass, the winnings will be awarded to someone else, again at random.
  • Cash prize and iPad 2 will be mailed separately but should be received one to two weeks following receipt of the W-9 form.

If you have any questions about the giveaway or just want to express your exuberance, feel free to leave a comment below.  Happy Holidays and good luck to everyone that enters!

  2. Captain Cheapo says

So what’s the impetus for this contest?

  3. I registered and subscribed (even if I prefer reading it in my Reader)! I’ll pass this along to some family and friends. Thanks!

  4. Wow…very generous. Never won anything online before let’s hope this’ll be a first from my favorite blog.

  5. I registered and subscribed. I hope I win 😉
    Happy Holidays! Thanks!

  6. Jon,

Gary here. A fan of your posts and your blogs. The comments also have been of knowledge most of the times.

I did sign up and don’t expect to win. But did anyways. However, I was wondering whether you are doing this on behalf of anyone or are you using your personal funds? I don’t need to know the reason for doing this.

Looking forward to your reply and your good posts.

  7. Thanks! happy holiday and good luck to all!!

  8. Wow, thank you for the contest!

  9. That’s not the only way you can track. If you use a FeedBurner RSS feed, any subscription will be tracked.

  10. Mike Panic says

Thanks for offering this up! Recently got laid off so any extra cash would really help – long time RSS reader (via google.com/ig)

  11. Love your site! Glad to see my daily stop might pay off yet again! Thanks.

  12. Impressive giveaway! Wish your family wellness and prosperity! Good luck to all entrants and congratulations to winners!

  13. *crosses fingers*

  14. Have to say that this is a heck of a give away especially during the holiday season. Whoever wins will have a happy belated holiday.

  15. You are so generous this year! Having designed and built these surveys myself, I can tell you chose to randomize the choices to get more honest results because the choice “None of the above” was in the middle of the list. So, after the contest, are you going to publish the results of the survey?

  16. I hope I win… $2500 and an IPOD2?! Who cares what his motives are or where the money is coming from. Whoever wins is going to have a nice Christmas!

  17. Petunia 100 says

It is a very generous contest. I tried to subscribe, but I receive a message that the link is broken.

  18. I haven’t been a subscriber for very long, but I very much enjoy all the personal finance blogs I read. This one is pretty great – good enough to keep on Google Reader! 🙂

  19. That’s an amazing giveaway! (And from a great blog, no less.) I definitely entered, and I’ll be tweeting this out as well.

  20. Subscribed and took the survey. thanks for the giveaway!

  21. Thanks Jonathon!

    An amazing give away!!!

Although, I don’t know why so many people would share with lots of random people. The more that enter, the less chance you have of winning!!!

  22. Wow, what a nice giveaway. I gave it a shot with fingers crossed. Thanks Jonathan!

  23. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

  24. Yes …thanks I’m in….Happy Holidays to all

  25. Jon-Paul LeClair says

Nice giveaway… hope I win!!! Love the blog!

  26. Very cool Jon. Always been a fan. Keep it up!

  27. For the rss subscribe i am getting 404 Error.
    I will check back later.

  28. Thanks for the chance to win!

  29. Thanks – your site is great!

Would you mind sharing any details on how you provide these gifts? Aren’t marketing folks interested in our emails and survey data?

  30. Jon,

Long time reader here. I probably start reading this blog five year ago. I have earned thousand of dollars just by reading your blog. It’s nice of you to do this little contest. I won’t mind winning the $2500 at all.

  31. I just tried out the RSS subscription by e-mail form, and it worked for me. (Sorry for the annoying captcha.) Please let me know if there are ongoing problems with that.

    Good luck everyone!

  32. Holly Switzerland. Wow. I just gave you all my credit card details (lol) and signed up for your email newsletter although am a RSS subscriber.

    Cheers, (and Merry Xmas!)

  33. Nice prizes! Thanks for the contest!

  34. Thanks for the contest! If I win, I will put the money in my 2012 Roth IRA in honor of this blog.

  35. Thanks for the chance!

  36. Thanks for sharing some holiday cheer with your readers. Hopefully this will bring new traffic to your site and you can do more of these next year.

  37. Very generous ! Keep up the great blog !

  38. Thank you!

  39. Awesome that you are doing this, but would of preferred 10 -$500 cash awards and avoided the W-9 Less work for all of us 🙂

  40. I agree with Nic. Less paperwork and more winners 🙂

  41. Great prizes. I’ve been a reader for years now and an RSS subscriber, but first time email subscriber. Good luck to everyone, and especially me.

  42. It _is_ very nice of you, but there’s something you didn’t add (maybe because it’s obvious to you); to whom is this open? i’m thinking it’s open just to US residents, but I might be mistaken (many blogs specify their contest being open to more than US, because they pay the rewards via paypal anyway)

Anyway, like i said, it _is very generous of you, on the top of taking time to research and make public so many financual tups.

    Merry Christmas

  43. Done. Have been a reader and learner from your blog for a long time. Happy holidays.

  44. Lindsay Marsh says

I have been reading your blog for years and signed up for many great reward cards by reading your blog. Keep it up! This is a great way to keep readers excited about returning. I have entered the contest *keeping fingers crossed!

  45. That’s my birthday! How about an extra chance at winning? 🙂

  46. Thanks for doing this!

  47. Wow, Jonathan is showering us with more gifts for this christmas!! Good prizes! I been reading your blog via RSS feed for few years and always like most of the posts. I even refer or post your blogs in my own blog post if really worth to spread it.

Keep it up!! Curious like other person, are you doing this for any advertisers or just by yourself?

  48. I subscribed to the RSS feed through my Outlook RSS feed. Not sure if you can tell this or not when I do it that way.

  49. I accidentally forgot to put my name. Am I still in it?

  50. This is SO nice of you!! I posted it on facebook…hopefully you will get more entries and people to follow you…you have SAVED and MADE me a lot of money with your info. THANKS!!

  51. Better odds than the state lottery!

  52. just did the survey and subscribed

  53. Done.

  54. Thank you for NOT making twitter shout-outs and facebook likes a requirement! I love reading your blog and have no qualms about recommending your site when friends ask me what they should read re: personal finance, but I hate link-spamming my friends with canned twitter messages just to enter a contest.

  55. Best holiday give-away that I’ve seen so far.

  56. “Thank you for NOT making twitter shout-outs and facebook likes a requirement! I love reading your blog and have no qualms about recommending your site when friends ask me what they should read re: personal finance, but I hate link-spamming my friends with canned twitter messages just to enter a contest.” – Ryan

Well said and I whole-heartedly agree

  57. I use to not believe in sweepstakes until I won the grand prize in a raffle. My husband and I enjoyed a week-long luxury river cruise down the Danube river valued at $10,000!

  58. Thanks for your generosity, Jonathan!

  59. Thanks for the great giveaway! Entered the one at the other site as well!

  60. just wanted to say a quick thank you…so, “thank you!” loved the site for years, and while winning would be great given things these days, you have already been a great help to me in so many ways just my running the site.

    happy holidays!

  61. Wow, there’s 16,820 RSS readers!? So….if everyone enters the contest, we’d have only 2/16820 chances of winning? Aww….

Been a long time reader of MMB, since waaaay back in the beginning.

  62. I prefer using Google Reader Feed 😉

  63. I always thought this blog was something you did on a part time basis, is this your main gig now. I hate contests, lotterys, gambling in general it is a PF killer. Having said that your blog has made me money and a little cash smarter, so I will continue to be a loyal reader.

  64. Adam Simon says

Merry Christmas, Jonathan. Thanks for all the great info!

  65. Thanks Jonathan! Great give away.

  66. To clear some confusion about ordering, Options I tried,

Using erebates.com, you have to login to get the Premium Shipping option and won’t be able to use the fee waiver code. You will get Promotion code not accepted or expired.

Using americanexpress.com, you just login as explained, use premium shipping option and use fee waiver code. All works out.

Its upto you to decide whether you want to get 1% back or waive fee $3.95 for each card.

    Hope this helps.

  67. Thanks for the contest Jonathan. I have been an RSS subscriber for a long time so all I had to do was fill out the survey.

  68. I’ve been a long time lurker, but after years of watching the site, you can watch me now 🙂 I look forward to reading these by email.

  69. Cant argue with free or a chance for free. I have been subscribed for along time. Just filled out survey. To easy.

  70. Real shame that I’m not a US resident. What a great way to reward your loyal visitors. I wish more blogs did this!!! Thanks for all your excellent blog posts this year, it been very enjoyable reading them

  71. Great Offer!. I have been following your blog for 3-4 years now.
If I win I keep the IPad and donate 2500 to Catholic Charities near my place.

PS: (I am not a Catholic)

  72. Question. How many readers you average per week? 🙂

  73. Real Estate Loan Florida says

I have been subscribed for along time.

  74. @Man,

I donated to our local Catholic Charities with my Chase Sapphire card I just received. $3000 for them, $1300 (after taxes) for me. ‘Tis the season!

  75. Got an error from the survey provider after clicking the blue arrow…? Was my info submitted?

  76. @Phil – If you used the same e-mail as in your comment, then no, I don’t see your survey response. Please submit again, sorry about that.

  77. I can’t believe i didn’t add my name to before my email. My entry is now void?
my email is my first and middle name, so can that count?

  78. Great Giveaway Jonathan! Long Time reader and beneficiary of your research! $2500 will make a nice contribution to my son’s 529 plan! Thank you and Happy Holidays!

  79. @Deahna – No problem, in that case I’ll take care of that for you. Everyone else – please complete the survey carefully!

@Ken and everyone – Thanks for reading!

  80. I did the survey last week and forgot my name as well. You know I’m a regular reader. We’ve corresponded by email a few times!

  81. I second what some of the others have said above about maybe you can break the prizes down further and do like 4 $500 winners as opposed to one $2,000 winner.

    Just my .03 cents.

  82. Awesome – thanks Jonathan!

  83. Thanks Jonathan

    Happy Holidays to everyone!!

  84. I did the survey, then signed up for the RSS feed, but when I clicked through on the link in my email to confirm the RSS feed it said “FeedBurner could not find the subscription”

  85. Sunil from The Extra Money Blog says

Joined the first time you posted this, thank you Jonathan

  86. I read your blog since you lived in Portland, OR. Your blog has been helpful. I made a lot of money from credit card balance transfers during 2007-2008. Thanks, Jonathan.

  87. Same here. It says:

“Oops, the survey you’re attempting is now closed.
This may be because the author has received enough responses to this survey.”

  88. Yeah, is the contest done?

  89. Also can’t do survey. Says it is closed. Very unfortunate. Signed up for RSS feed though…

  90. Received the same notice as Mike above.

    I enjoy your blog.

  91. I’m experiencing some technical difficulties with the survey provider, it’s a bad time for it I know. My apologies. I will do my best to open it up for one more day (if I can get it back!)

  92. Don’t extend it, draw the winners!

  99. Congrats to the winners! Great contest Jonathan!

  100. Congrats to lucky winners! I was trying my Law of Attraction mantra to see it works out to win the price. But it looks lucky charm doesn’t always comply with it.
