I was browsing my local credit union’s website when I saw a banner for discounts on Sprint discount service at CUsaver.com. It advertises:

  • 10-15% off wireless plans
  • Waived activation and upgrade fees

You can view the discounted plans and phones on the site, which appear to be available to members of any credit union. It would be worth a try so see if the discount may be stackable with other discounts. To get the discounts, you must either call them or enter your phone number and they’ll call you back.

This seems like a great alternative if you can’t get in on a student or employee discount from a major cell carrier.

  1. Good morning. Just had this sent to me. Thank you for sharing this information. I am one of the managers of the credit union program and would like to touch base with you about the program to ensure that you have all of the correct information.

  2. I have been a sprint customer for a few years and just came across this information. When I spoke with a representative, I was told that I have to sign a new 2 year agreement just to get the credit union discount put on my account. If that is the case, this is definitely not worth it for me. Anyone know if this is true?

  3. Chad, there has been a recent change to the policy regarding discount programs at Sprint, and the information you were given by the repesentative is, indeed, correct. For existing customers, there is a new, 24 month contract, required to begin taking advantage of the savings. I recognize that this may not be as attractive as a no contract program, but we believe it still represents a great value to our credit union member customers. Keep in mind that in addition to the 10% savings on your monthly plan, you will also have any additional activtion fees ($36.00) waived, and any upgrade/replacement fees ($18.00) waived as well. I hope this answers your question. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any additional concerns.
    Thank you.

  4. Eric, this policy change is just one more way Sprint communicates to it’s customers that Sprint views them to be money-pigs, meant to be stuck and bled dry. If Sprint was serious about customer retention they might try giving the customer what they want. I know it’s a crazy idea, but good customer service is the most sustainable business model.

  5. Chris, thank you for your response. I certainly respect your right to your opinion, and I absolutely agree with you that good customer service is the most sustainable business model. In fact, no other wireless company has demonstrated this more than Sprint in the last several years. Our customer experience measurements in both first call resolution and customer satisfaction have had nine straight quarters of improvement. I will grant you that we certainly had plenty of room for improvement nine quarters ago, but that type of improvement only occurs with a company wide commitment to the customer experience.
Relative to the recent policy change, I can understand one’s resistance to a new contract, however, the new policy allows us to continue offering these types of fantastic value enhancements to our existing customers as well as new one’s. Thank you again for your comments, as always, we welcome the dialog.

  6. Eric,

I just looked at the “Credit Union & Sprint” page (http://www.pcsorders.com/cu/index.php?p=home), and went through the motions as though I were going to place an order. I got close to submitting it, and at no point was I asked for the name of my credit union. There is a field for a promotion code, but that’s provided on the first page. I was going to join a credit union in order to get the discount, but if the system doesn’t actually ask for a name, why should I bother? Thank you.

  7. Eric Loehr says

Jeff, thank you for your feedback. This is definately a gap and I appreciate you bringing it to my attention. Because the web site is advertised at credit unions nation wide, we have always worked under the assumption that credit union members would, by default, be the visitors. You bring up a good point relative to motivation for non-credit union members that visit the site, tojoin a credit union.
We will work with the site managers to resolve this. Thanks again!

  8. Well now I’m sorry I told you!

BTW, before I leave T-Mobile after seven years to open a Sprint account, you need to give me a reason why I shouldn’t be disgusted by this: http://consumerist.com/2010/04/sprint-employees-fired-for-capturing-apple-store-shoplifter.html

  9. Eric Loehr says

Jeff, I am terribly sorry if my response was troubling to you. We feel that it is very important to ensure that credit union
members are the beneficiary of the program discounts. We certainly want to earn your business and will do everything we can to give you a compelling reason to come to Sprint from your current carrier. Sprint has several discount programs available to customers dependent upon where you work, if you are a credit union member or if you have affiliations with AAA, AOL, or other similar programs. I would be to work with you to determine the best possible program.

  10. Before we get that far, I would like to hear what you have to say about the story linked to in my previous comment.

  11. Eric Loehr says

Jeff, sorry for the delay, I was out yesterday. I completely mis-understood your question earlier. I am forwarding your question to our corporate communications team. I am not familiar enough with our retail policies or the specifics of the situation to comment with any degree of accuracy. Anything I respond with will be conjecture and opinion. I would prefer to get you an accurate response. I will let you know as soon as I get something back from our team relative to an explanation. I appreciate your patience.

  12. I am a current sprint customer and have been for 10 years. I have been the member of my credit union for six. How do I go about getting this discount? I feel like Ive been robbed all this time

  13. Eric Loehr says

Michelle, the credit union program has been in place now for around five years. We work with credit unions all over the nation to communicate the benefits of the program, but it appears your credit union may not have been aware of the program. Although we can’t apply any credits retroactively, you can sign up to start receiving the discounts by going to http://www.sprintsave4cu.com. They will be able to get you enrolled into the program to start saving.

    Thanks

  14. Eric, which is has greater savings; AAA or CU membership? Thanks

  15. Eric Loehr says

Henry, both programs offer a 10% discount on most monthly service plans and a waiver of the activation fee. The credit union program also offers a waiver on the upgrade and replacement fee for members. I do not think that AAA has that offer. Both are excellent benefits and I encourage you to take advantage of the program for which you are best suited. Thanks for your question!

  16. Is it possible to sign up for the ESRP using the information given?

  17. john wilson says

after a 30 percent discount for early 2 years sprint said it was an error and that i was only getting 10 now…… bye bye sprint they didnt even try to work sonmething out …good thing thr new iphone is out…

  18. So if you’re already under a contract with Sprint are you eligible for this discount? Also if you are, does it start a new contract from the date of the discount or is it tacked on to the end of your current contract?

  19. Eric, two things:

    1. Earlier, you said, “I would be to work with you to determine the best possible program.” Do you have an email address?

    2. The only phone I’d be interested in – the only one that would lure me away from T-Mobile – is the Evo. Is there any word on when it will again be available?

  20. Eric Loehr says

Good morning, I have been out for a while and am just getting back to answer some of these questions. I apologize for the delay.

First, my email is eric.loehr@sprint.com. Please feel free to email me directly.
Second, I unfortunately do not have any advance knowledge of when inventory of the Evo will be released. It is a great device, and I would encourage you to get on a waiting list at one of the stores. When the device comes in, they will make sure to call when it arrives and walk you through all of it’s features.

  21. Eric Loehr says

Brian, if you are already under contract, you can still migrate your account to the credit union program. It will, however, extend the contract from the date the discount is added.

  22. Eric Loehr says

John, I can certainly understand how a 20% discount reduction can be troubling. I do think it was fortuitous for you that you were able to save approximately $200-$300 over and above your eligable discount level over the last couple of years. I hope you choose to stay with Sprint and continue to benefit from the great devices, service, and pricing we offer.

  23. Eric Loehr says

Chris, I believe the information given will suffice to sign up for the ESRP program.

  24. Demetrius Cassidy says

The email address for the employee plus referral no longer works. Telesales said he’s no longer an employee of sprint so you can no longer add this to your account.

  25. @Demetrius – It still works for me online just now to gain access to EPRP website. I didn’t actually buy anything though.

  26. Eric Loehr says

Demetrius, I am pretty sure that Russ is still employed at Sprint. If his email is no longer available, you will need to see if someone else you may know, that works at Sprint, would be willing to let you utilize their EPRP. Otherwise, you may want to stop into a Sprint store and see what other discounts may be available to you.

  27. I am switching from Verizon to Sprint and am interested in the EPRP, this has to be done online and I want to be able to keep my same numbers for the four lines that I will be switching. If I do this online how do I keep my same phone numbers? Also if I want the EVO it is not available Online. Looking for answers from somebody in the know. Thanks.

  28. Hello…I was advised that AAA members get a 10% monthly discount when I visited a Sprint store in Peabody Ma. When I went to another location to activate my new phone for a new 2 yr contract they knew nothing about it. Who do I contact to get the discount? Thank you

  29. Eric Loehr says

I have not been to the site for a while and wanted to follow up with Scott and Paula.
Scott, when you activate online, you will be prompted as to whether or not you would like to port the existing numbers. Answer in the affirmative and you should be fine. Your EVO question is a bit harder. We continue to have inventory challenges. My recommendation would be to put yourself on a waiting list at a local store.
Paula, the AAA discount is indeed available to you. If you contact Sprint customer care, they should be able to ensure you get the proper credit moving forward

  30. Hi Eric,
I was wondering if the SERO program was the same or similar to the SERP one being discussed here? I ask because the 10% credit union discount specifically states it cannot be combined with the SERO program but I have the SERP and was wondering if these discounts are stackable? Thanks.

  31. Ana, thank you for your question. Sprint works hard to ensure that our customers are able to take advantage of the best possible program available to them. However, stacking of any discounts are not allowed. I hope that this answers your question.

  32. I am looking to switch over to sprint this month or early of next month. And i was going to get into the SERO plan but then i also have a credit union bank and i was wondering which will be more convenient for me,money wise. Also do I have to get approved for opening service, because as of right now i do not have any credit because i just turned 18, but i do have a steady job and can afford it. THANKS

  33. I’ve been a customer for 12 years as well as being a Premier Customer. I have 2lines, on the 700 min. plan, 200 & 500 text as well as the $15 Data Pack. I want to upgrade to a Android phone. This would increase my bill by at least $60 a month. Anyway i can get a Loyalty Discount for this plan? I don’t even use the 700 min. i have now so increasing my min. & a increased bill i don’t need. I’ll renew my agreement of course but i’d like something to offset the increased amt. of my bill if i upgrade. Anyone have any suggestions?

  34. Eric Loehr says

John, usually, the SERO plans offer a little bit better discount than our work or association plans. Relative to the credit question; I am afraid I cannot answer that. You will need to walk through the process with our sales teams and they will let you know your options. I hope this helps.

  35. Eric Loehr says

Tom, we do not have “loyalty” discounts, but there may be other types of discounts for which you may be eligible. For example, if you are a credit union member or a member of AAA, you can get a 10% discount. If you are an AOL customer or a member of the Jack Miller Buying Group, you may also be eligible for a discount. Your employer may also offer you access to a discount. If you wanted to let me know where you work, I would be happy to check to see if there is any sort of program. I hope this helps.

  36. anyone know if that EPRP is still valid? I would like to use it but don’t want a hassle down the road.

  37. Robert R. says

So does any wireless provider allow stacking discounts?

  38. Eric Loehr says

Robert, we do not have stackable discounts.

  39. T Schulte says

I was just told by Sprint Rep via email that my Credit Union is only eligible for 5% discount, everything I see says 10%. What’s up with that, are they lowering the discount along with their bad customer service. Wouldn’t be surprised, very unhappy since changing from Verizon to Sprint.

  40. Eric Loehr says

T Schulte, I apologize as you have been given incorrect information. As a credit union members, you are eligible for a 10% discount of off most Sprint plans. If you would like to email me your Sprint telephone number, I will check to see what discount you are currently getting and let you know. If you are not getting the 10% you should be, we will correct it. My email is eric.loehr@sprint.com.

Again, my apologies for the incorrect information.

    Regards,

    Eric Loehr

  41. Dale DeBruyn says

To me the credit union discount is a scam. I was forced to extend my contract because Sprint did not
apply the credit union discount when I signed up and provided all the required documentation.
Then that discount was $3.00 for each phone or $6.00 both the two phones on my account. It sure
was not the $21.00 I was expecting. My true cost $840.00 extra for a $165.00 discount.
You can find all kind of variation in the credit union monthly discount but the lovemycreditunion.com it
only applies to regular priced data service. So it not worth switching to Sprint.
