Citi and American Airlines is offering 75,000 AAdvantage miles if you apply for a new Visa or American Express card (and have never had any Citi/AA co-branded card before) and make $4,000 in purchases within 6 months of becoming a cardmember. The annual fee for the consumer cards is $85 but is waived for the first year. Offer expires 2/28/2011. A nice deal if you like to travel and are serviced by American.

This Citi® / AAdvantage® card offer is valid only for first-time Citi® / AAdvantage® cardmembers who apply pursuant to this offer for an account by February 28, 2011. The American Airlines AAdvantage® miles will appear as a bonus in your AAdvantage® account 8-10 weeks after you have met the purchase requirements.

  1. This is a terrific deal. AA is one of the few airlines that allows its miles to be used for one way travel. During off peak season you can travel to Europe for 20k miles each way. Thanks!

  2. nice! approved for $15,500

  3. and wifey got approved too.
This plus the BA offer of 100K miles is super duper sweet!
I just used 75K miles from the BA miles to fly to Texas for 3 ppl.

  4. xmasy: where and how long ago did you get the BA offer for 100K??

  5. BA offer for 100K miles I think was early this year. Both wife and I got in and each got 100K miles.

  6. Interestingly, the British Airways offer was almost exactly a year ago: (expired long ago)

  7. similar to BA, who pulled the 100k offer prior to its expiration, Citi looks like it has done the same. The link does not work any longer.

  8. The site for te 75000 miles says to call a customer service number. Didyou actually find a website that accepted an application for the 75000 miles? If so, what is the website address? Thank you.

  9. I applied with the phone number on the website as RJ mentioned and had no problem, was approved on the phone.

  10. This is a huge ripoff!! I got the card and have 50,899 miles. It is going to take 50,000 miles to book a round trip domestic ticket on the days I need- so much for the no black out dates- they just don’t have any seats for the 25,000 they say it takes for a round trip ticket. OK- so I try to use the free companion ticket- buy one, get one free. The purchased ticket will only cost $789- almost as much as 2 round-trip tickets on Southwest Airlines, and SW doesn’t charge for bags. If you think this is a good deal, you are being sucked into their games just like I was.

  11. Just wanted to give an input to Carol Flynn.

AA seems to require 50k miles to book a round-trip domestic ticket or 25k miles to book a one-way domestic ticket. In mid-February last year, I booked online for a one-way ticket for LAX-EWR for a late-June departure date; it required 25k miles, too, without any annotation. It actually came out to be a first class ticket, not a coach class. For me, I would rather have a coach class ticket for this overnight flight, but the AA system did not pop up more choices to let me choose and did not disclose the class of the award ticket.

I guess you will have a first class ticket requiring 50k miles but you cannot be sure until at a very later time.

Anyway, I am not an active AAdvantage airmile earner, but I think AA is better than Delta in this case, as the latter required 100k miles from LAX to Europe (Madrid, Spain) at a coach class ticket in Summer 2008, not 50K miles.

  12. since the 75K has expired, anyone know what the best Citibank AAdvantage offer is now……?
    thanks
