I haven’t picked up any other great tips since then, so here are my 5 Romantic Yet Money-Saving Ideas For Valentine’s Day that I posted last year. My wife and I both have long days tonight with work and all, so we’re moving it to another day. Tonight it’s just ice cream and the couch. Hope things go smoothly for the rest of y’all!

  1. My wife and I agreed to postpone Valentine’s day until Saturday. We are dropping our daughter off at Grandma’s and then going out to the lake to attend a “Gilligan’s Island” themed party. It should be a blast.

Even though we are delaying, I still plan to do a few simple things today to make sure my wife and daughter know that I love them. It started this morning. I got up an extra half hour early and made tea and toast for my wife and brought it to her in bed (She’s British so that’s a big treat for her). I’ll finish the day out by having a card for each of them and a dinner ready for them when they get home today.

It’s the simple things in life that truly bring the most joy. For all those suckers out there that are stopping on the side of the road to buy the Valentine’s day crappola with jacked up prices, think simple!

Hope you have a great Valentine’s day!

  2. Ditto; My wife and I are postponing Valentine’s Day to the weekend. We’ll be “getting away” for the night and staying at a hotel (using CC points, of course) and then Saturday we’ll be visiting Cades Cove in East TN. The last time we were there was our honeymoon, so it’ll be nice to go back.

Tonight I am making dinner for her, but we are both glad to not be caught up in the “norm” of flowers/gift/restaurant psuedo-holiday fair.

  3. I don’t make a deal at all with v-day. There are 365 days in a year. I use all of those days. One “make up” day will not help. 4 years and not an issue yet. In fact, she is out of town today to be with a friend (her friends b-day is on v-day) which is her norm for this particular friend.

Well, I guess you could say for v-day I did her taxes and filled out her FASA.

Actually we have been dating for over 4 years and have never celebrated an anniversery (we are not married though) and we do not even have an anniversery “date”. We just base it on the number of Saw movies there are.

    Yep, romantic saladdin.

  4. I just re-read the post and comments from last year. At first, I didn’t realize the comment stating that “dinner in is great as long as it’s not the person who always cooks who does the cooking on V-day” was my own comment from a year ago! I read it and was like: “SO TRUE!”. But once again, I’m cooking tonight. Oh well. He’s worth it, but I am scaling down. Those double chocolate brownies are coming from a box!

We actually celaberated last night..We went a nice spa and got nice couple’s massage.(it was also our 5th year anniversary) Also he does not but I have him an another suprise on saturday. Sport Chalet offers FREE 4 hrs scuba diving class. I signed us up!

  6. We actually *planned* on cooking, however as time passed we grew tired and decided to celebrate this weekend instead. We DID, however, put into effect our “under $25” gift rule to save more for the wedding. Turned out GREAT 🙂
