Amazon Prime, in case you don’t know, is a premium service where you get free 2nd-day shipping on most items with no minimum, even if you’re just spending $5. Very convenient. The normal cost for turning Amazon into your impulse-buying superstore is $79 per year (not available to Alaska, Hawaii, P.O. boxes, APO/FPO and U.S. territories).

This might be old, but it appears that if you are signing up for a new account with a new e-mail address, you will be offered a 1 month free trial right now. You’ll need to supply a credit card number, but you can set it so you don’t have to remember to cancel if you take the following steps:

  1. Click on Your Account.
  2. If you’re not there yet, scroll down and click on Subscriptions Management > Manage Your Amazon Prime Membership.
  3. Look for green text. Click on the Do Not Upgrade button and you won’t automatically be charged $79 anymore. You’ll still get the entire 1st month of free Amazon Prime shipping.

  1. I used my free trial when I had to purchase several items and books for back to school last fall, it was great! My brother also shares a membership with several of his friends, essentially bringing the cost down to under $20 per year. The UPS driver told him that Amazon Prime is the reason he has a job!

  2. To be honest, I think that this whole program is a little wasteful.

  3. The most I ever spent on Amazon was during my free trial with Prime. I forgot the time length, but I think it was about 3 months. I spent more in those 3 months than all the other times combined.

Amazon would make more money from me giving away Prime for free. In many cases, I was willing to pay a bit more for Amazon to get the 2-day shipping.

  4. Not sure that I would pay the $79 annual fee because I dont purchase that much, but the free trial period really came in handy this holiday season. The only issue with Amazon Prime is that some of the items offered are at a higher price that what other sellers have listed, so for some of my purchases I opted not to use the Amazon Prime

  5. Please cancel Amazon Prime, I don’t buy enough to pay $79.00 for two day shipping. I just received a bill for $79.00 and I didn’t even make a purchase. So please cancel it. Thank you Mary Ellen Parisian

  6. Rudy Bernardy says

Please cancel my Amazon Prime Free Trial Membership. I have only purchased two (2) items in the short time I have been a member. And some items are not covered using Amazon Prime. Thank You.
