Do online purchases count towards signature based purchases? Or is it only in-store? Anybody know?
Also, do they do a hard credit pull? I know that they give you a line of credit for their overdraft protection, but not sure if that results in a pull or not.

  2. Mike Says:

Answering my own question, it looks like online purchases count:

    Examples of signature-based transactions include:
    · Any purchases that require your signature(choosing ‘Credit’ instead of ‘Debit’) when checking out.
    · Internet, phone or mail order purchases.
    · Using your Card for automatic bill payments like your cell phone, cable or utilities.

  3. Eric N. Says:

Oh so the checking account bonus is opened for savings account holders? That’s cool since at first I thought I was ineligible for having a savings account already.

Do you know how long the $50 bonus for checking will last?

  4. Joe Says:

    Mike,

There is a hard pull for the Orange checking:

    http://home.ingdirect.com/faqs.....draft#pull

“Do you pull my credit if I apply for Electric Orange and the Overdraft Line of Credit?

Yes, as part of your application, ING DIRECT will obtain information about you from a consumer credit reporting agency (a “hard pull”) to confirm that you are eligible for Electric Orange. “

  5. Mike Panic Says:

Thanks, don’t need another checking account but it’s worth signing up for just to get the $50.

@Eric N – the website says $50 deposit 50 days after you open your account.

  6. BloggingBanks Says:

Those are some nice account bonuses MMB. How long do you have to have the accounts open before you close them but still keep the bonus?

  7. skylog Says:

    mike:

where were you able to find the details regarding the signature-based transactions? also, i use my current card all the time for “credit” transactions, but usually i do not have to sign….do you think this would still “count?”

  8. Eric N. Says:

    @Mike Panic

Thanks for the reply but I was wondering how long the promotion itself was going to last (as in can I apply in December or next year, so on). :)

  9. skylog Says:

    mike:

i guess to answer my own question, i just got off the phone with ing and they stated that it must be a transaction you actually sign for and that online transactions DO NOT count. so, i guess take that for what you will, as perhaps the associate was not correct…..but again, could someone point me to any information on the web site?

    thank you

  10. Jonathan Says:

In my experience, they just want purchase in which they can make money via charging transaction fees. No, no ATM-like purchases where you need a PIN-number. In other words, use the debit card like a credit card.

If you have a cell phone or cable bill, just charge $10.01 towards either bill a few times.

  11. Jody Says:

Did anyone else get something in the mail only offering $10 from ING instead of $20 if they used their card in November?

  12. Joe Says:

The signup page for the $50 promotion does not seem to require a promotion code. I wonder if em227 is actually a referral code?

  13. hamdan Says:

Be careful, they do pull your credit report, a hard pull……….

  14. BR549 Says:

Anyone get the $20 for using the debit card? I didn’t so I sent them an email.

  15. Matthew Says:

Has anyone gotten their $50 for the new electric orange account? I did not get mine and it has been 60 days.

  16. Mike Says:

    Got mine…just came in today.

  17. Matthew Says:

What day did you open your account?
