American Express is offering all their cardholders a free 6-month subscription to MyPanera+. You must redeem via that link and sign into your AmEx account. Many of us have had MyPanera free trials before, but hopefully this can land us another 6 months.

Highlights of MyPanera+:

  • Valid for any size cup of light roast, dark roast, hazelnut, decaf, iced coffee, or hot tea.
  • Get one cup up to every two hours, with free unlimited refills of the same beverage in-store.
  • Excludes cold brew, espresso drinks, and iced tea.
  • One subscription per person.

Be aware that you will start to get charged $8.99 a month once those free 6 months are up. You should set a calendar reminder to cancel if you don’t want to get charged.

How to cancel your MyPanera+ Coffee subscription:

To cancel your subscription online, visit the Subscription section at http:/www.panerabread.com/MyPaneraCoffee or on the Panera Bread app. You can also call Panera Customer Service at 1-855-372-6372 to cancel your subscription.

The regular price of $8.99 per month works out to about 30 cents per cup if you got one per day. Panera has admitted that this is a loss leader and they hope you also buy a breakfast sandwich, muffin, etc. while you are there. However, you can always order via app and use their contactless curbside service (or drive-thru where available).

Nice to see another free AmEx perk. AmEx cardholders can also get a free 6-month trial of Audible Plus if you are a new customer.

My two “keeper” consumer American Express cards are the Amex EveryDay Card (keeps my Membership Rewards points active with no annual fee, helps qualify for various Amazon promotions) and the Blue Cash Preferred from AmEx (6% cash back on US supermarkets, up to $6,000 annually).

Great Deal…been doing it since last Monday. My Panera has a drive-thru so it’s convenient too. A game changer – Dunkin and Sbux look out!

I like they it coffee and I think it’s a great deal if you have Panera close by. I have one 10 mins away and I do work from home 50% of the times.

  3. My experience was that their coffee was bad. We would walk across the street to get coffee at Peet’s, then go back for food.

  4. The Frugal Millionaire says

I don’t have one near me, so I am just asking out of curiosity…do you still pay sales tax?

  5. Do you have to make a purchase? This is in the terms and conditions: “ Note that zero dollar transactions – transactions in which only a daily coffee and other MyPanera rewards are redeemed – do not count as a “visit” towards purchase-based rewards.”

    • No, that’s referring simply to their rewards program itself. You can’t earn a visit to their rewards by simply picking up free coffee.

As an aside, you can however earn a visit with a free coffee plus any cheap side or something like a baguette, you know, if you’re desperate to get to the next level and freebie item. 🙂

Sadly, our Panera closed (apparently permanently) last month due to the pandemic. It was great while it lasted!

  6. This is tempting (or it would be if I could get espresso drinks), but I get a feeling it would just lead to me throwing out a lot of disposable cups (most places aren’t taking reusable mugs right now) 🙁

  7. Funny, initially I had to add special instructions to customize the drink. Although they had room for 40 spaces, the screens the staff saw only showed about 21 spaces. So unless they printed out the order in advance, which they rarely did, they might not see the full custom request which included three pumps of vanilla.

Last week the server said they had updated the app to allow a customization without making notes. Sure enough I could now specify the cream, syrups, sweeteners and even add whipped cream and caramel drizzle. BUT they now charged 69 cents per pump of vanilla!

I asked the manager about this and she said the stores were not able to account for their inventory without the customization feature and they were losing TOO much money with the additional items added to the iced coffees!!! love it.

The last notice said I had saved $140+ since I started the subscription. Not bad with one month to go.

  8. Update on choices

The latest kiosk app now charges for the caramel or chocolate toppings drizzles. Plus it doesn’t offer whipped cream as an option. You have to put in the notes. Seems they might be learning a price point lesson

  9. The Amex cash (not preferred) with no annual fee also offers 6% cash back on groceries. Any reason you wouldn’t choose that card over the $95 a year card?

    • I’m pretty sure the Blue Cash Everyday with no annual fee only offers 3% cash back on groceries up to the same $6,000 a year limit.

      • You’re right. I was looking at a site with the wrong picture of the clear card saying it was 6% back. Its a good idea, but Chase Freedom gives me 5% cash back up to 12K. If I spend $6000 on the Freedom card its $300 back versus the $360 on American Express. But I don’t have an annual fee. If I charge more on Chase Freedom, I will come out ahead. I also won’t have to worry about going over the $6000 limit. There are sometimes good deals on American Express, but the things I really need there are rare. If you get a fee card with them, do you get better deals?

  10. I just tried signing up and was not accepted, due to having signed up in 2020. Was worth a try.

    • Thanks for the confirmation. The offer is for new accounts, so it looks like you will need to open a new account with a new phone number and e-mail address.

They also added a “sweet pastry of your choice” to the new account as well.

      • You’re right. I was looking at a website that had a picture of the clear blue card up saying it was 6% cash back.
I will think about this one. I guess it’s double the cash back but only end up with $85 more after fee. We don’t have any streaming subscriptions-get free Netflix with t mobile.
