Amazon has a targeted promotion of $10 off $20+ purchase when you try out an Amazon pickup point, which include in-store pickup counters (like Whole Foods) and self-service Amazon Hub lockers. Enter the code 10OFFPICKUP and select an Amazon pickup location as your shipping address at checkout. Must be shipped and sold by Amazon. Expires May 9th, 2022, valid for first 40,000 uses. If you use a locker, there may be size restrictions. Amazon knows quite well that people are lazy and they need to incentive us to make behavioral changes. 🙂

Amazon Prime Price Hike 2022: Save Money With Gift of Prime Membership

My Money Blog has partnered with CardRatings and may receive a commission from card issuers. MyMoneyBlog.com does not include all card companies or all available card offers. All opinions expressed are the author’s alone.

amazon200Amazon Prime has announced the following price increases (note that some links will show up if you are viewing this via e-mail newsletter, please read online):

  • Starting February 18th, 2022, new members will be charged $139/year for an annual Prime membership and $69/year for an annual Prime Student membership.
  • Starting March 25th, 2022, existing Prime members with an annual membership will renew at a rate of $139/year. Prime Student members with an annual membership will renew at a rate of $69/year.

You can still buy a Gift of Prime Membership for $119 (plus applicable taxes). It is unknown when this will increase in price. Here’s the rundown.

  • You can cancel the auto-renewal of your Amazon Prime membership in your account. You may have to go through a lot of “Are you sure?” prompts. They make it feel like you’re canceling your membership right then and there, but again you’re just canceling your auto-renewal. Your Prime membership will still continue through your anniversary date.
  • Buy a Gift of Prime Membership for $119 (plus applicable taxes) and send it to yourself or alternative e-mail. Note that if you try to apply the Amazon Gift of Prime when you have an active membership, it won’t work. You just get the exact value paid (including any taxes) in the form of an Amazon gift card. The goods news it that you can’t ever lose any value.
  • Set a calendar reminder of when your Amazon Prime year expires, and keep that e-mail with the gift membership link (perhaps in a special folder). If you apply the Amazon Gift of Prime the day after your current membership expires, then it will renew you with one year of Amazon Prime. You don’t need to start a new Amazon account or change your e-mail, everything will carry over from before. You’ll simply not have Prime for a day or less. Easy.

You can also choose to buy multiple years of Gift of Prime membership. Again, the worst case it that you redeem it for Amazon credit in the exact amount paid initially.

I also did this when Amazon hiked the price of Prime in 2018:

az_gift

Note that if you have an older grandfathered Amazon Prime that lets you have 5 household members share the benefits, you may not want that to expire.

Amazon Prime has a bunch of features beyond the faster shipping that are useful to me, including the Amazon Video and Amazon Music apps. There are also Prime-only deals throughout the year that try to take advantage of in order to offset the annual membership cost. On the other hand, it has been almost too easy at times to buy things on impulse.

Discover it 14 ImageCheck to see if eligible again for this new round. If you have a Discover card with cash back rewards, you can redeem them to buy eligible items at Amazon.com. The redemption rate is $1 in Cash Back Bonus = $1 to spend at Amazon, which is the same rate as their statement credit redemptions. Check each of these targeted promotions and activate for an additional discount for redeeming a single penny’s worth of points. (To see the link, you may need to visit this page on the internet if viewing this via e-mail or RSS.)

Here are some additional tips:

  • If you haven’t linked your Discover yet, you can link your Discover Cashback points balance to your Amazon account here. Check again, possibly waiting a day or two.
  • If you have already linked your Discover card previously and aren’t targeted, consider removing your Discover card from your account completely, and then linking it again after a day. Try again in a day or two.
  • Items must be marked as both sold AND shipped by Amazon.com.
  • Be sure to select your Discover Card as your payment method and redeem at least 1 point or $0.01 in value of Discover points.
  • You should see the promo credit on final order checkout page, right before final purchase.

This is a recurring perk for existing Discover cardholders, which is why I never cancel a card with no annual fee. Check out my Discover it credit card review, one of my keeper 5% cash back cards.

Amazon: Pay with Citi ThankYou Points, Get Up to 50% Off (Targeted)

My Money Blog has partnered with CardRatings and may receive a commission from card issuers. MyMoneyBlog.com does not include all card companies or all available card offers. All opinions expressed are the author’s alone.

Check again to see if targeted for latest promo. If you have a Citi credit card that earns ThankYou points, you can redeem them to buy eligible items at Amazon.com. The redemption rate is 1 ThankYou points = 0.8 cents to spend at Amazon, which may not be the best value available. However, here are targeted promotions where you can save money after redeeming just 1 single MR point (a penny’s worth). (To see the link, you may need to visit this page on the internet if viewing this via e-mail or RSS.)

Here are some additional tips:

  • If you haven’t linked yet, you can link your ThankYou points balance to your Amazon account here.
  • If you have already linked your cards and aren’t targeted, you may consider removing your Citi card from your account completely, and then linking it again after a day, and then checking the offer page(s) again after another day.
  • Items must be marked as both sold AND shipped by Amazon.com.
  • Be sure to select your Citi credit card as your payment method and redeem at least 1 point or $0.01 in value of ThankYou points.
  • Savings should be reflected on the final order checkout page, before you commit to purchase.

Notably, the Citi Double Cash card, Citi Custom Cash card, and Citi Rewards+ all now earn ThankYou points. You may want to try linking them to see if you qualify for this promotion now or in the future. For redemptions, I’d probably stick with the 2% cash back option for the Double Cash, and look at the new airline transfer options for the premium travel cards like Citi Premier.

Check again to see if targeted for newest discount. If you have Ultimate Rewards points from Chase credit cards, you can use them to buy eligible items at Amazon.com. The redemption rate is 1 Ultimate Rewards points = 1 cent at Amazon, which is the same rate as their statement credit redemptions. However, here are targeted promotions where you can save money after redeeming just 1 single MR point (a penny’s worth). (To see the link, you may need to visit this page on the internet if viewing this via e-mail or RSS.)

  • Get 50% off (max discount $15), valid on items shipped and sold by Amazon. Must redeem at least 1 Chase Ultimate Rewards point. You may be eligible even if you’ve done similar promos before.

Here are some additional tips:

  • If you haven’t linked yet, you can link your Ultimate Rewards points balance to your Amazon account here.
  • If you have already linked your cards and aren’t targeted, you may consider removing your Chase card from your account completely, and then linking it again after a day, and then checking the offer page(s) again after another day.
  • Items must be marked as both sold AND shipped by Amazon.com.
  • Be sure to select your Chase credit card as your payment method and redeem at least 1 point or $0.01 in value of Ultimate Rewards points.
  • Savings should be reflected on the final order checkout page, before you commit to purchase.

Keep in mind that you have options to earn 25% more value (1.25 cents per Ultimate Rewards point) from travel redemptions via the Chase portal and the Pay Yourself Bank tools if you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, and 50% more value (1.5 cents per UR point) with the Chase Sapphire Reserve. You can transfer over any UR points earned elsewhere from the Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Unlimited. You may get even better value by converting them to frequent flier miles like United Airlines or hotel points like Hyatt.

  • New Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers: Prime members pay a $7.99 month, and you get 6 months of Disney plus for free as well ($7.99 value each month). You must be a new Disney+ subscriber (with a new e-mail address not associated with any other Disney+ account). If you don’t cancel, each are $7.99 separately after the promo.
  • Past and Current Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers: Get 3 free months of Disney+. You must be a new Disney+ subscriber (with a new e-mail address not associated with any other Disney+ account).

Basically a discount for new subscribers, but a nice little freebie for existing subscribers. Especially good if you also just got the 4-month free trial from Prime Day.

Prime Day is live. Amazon Prime Day 2021 is on June 21st and 22nd (Monday and Tuesday). I’ll try to keep this post updated with the most recent offers, as there will be many deals in the days leading up to it as well. As the name suggests, most deals require a Prime membership. New members can sign up for a 30-day free trial. If you’ve already done the trial, you can simply buy a month of Prime for $12.99 ($5.99 with EBT or Medicaid card).

Amazon Explore allows you to virtually “travel” and explore a new place with your own personal tour guide. There are tours, educational classes, interactive shows, and personal shoppers. For the tours, it appears that you get the equivalent of a Zoom/FaceTime/WebEx call with someone who actually lives in Australia/Venice/Tokyo and they take you around in an interactive experience. Currently, Prime members can get their first live virtual experience free (up to $50 value) with promo code FREEFUN.

You pick the specific time and date at the time of purchase. Since it is live, be aware that your experience may be in a very different time zone. Here are some quick links that caught my eye:

Flippa: Buy and Sell Digital Real Estate Like eCommerce Stores, Amazon Products

My Money Blog has partnered with CardRatings and may receive a commission from card issuers. Some or all of the card offers that appear on this site are from advertisers and may impact how and where card products appear on the site. MyMoneyBlog.com does not include all card companies or all available card offers. All opinions expressed are the author’s alone.

Flipping, rehabbing, or rental residential real estate is a popular entrepreneurial activity, but I’ve always been more partial to digital real estate (websites). There are similarities in that anyone can enter the business as long as they are willing to learn quickly and put in the hours. Nobody gets a degree in “landlording”, just as nobody gets a degree in “digital marketing”. Everything is about results, not letters after names. Some own $500 websites, while others own $5,000,000 websites.

You can now also buy and sell digital properties via online marketplaces. I often spend idle moments browsing the email newsletter of the biggest one, Flippa.com, and realized that a beginner could learn a lot about the industry by just reading through the listings. The best way to learn is still to jump in and get your hands dirty, but seeing the inner details of all these properties will accelerate your education. How does their website valuation tool work? What are the ranges in terms of multiples of revenue? How do you verify traffic stats? By signing up for a free account, you can see the non-public listings as well. I’ve learned a lot more about the Amazon ecosystem myself.

Some people love to start websites from nothing and quickly sell them for $1,000 to $10,000. Others like to find a starter drop-shipping site or Amazon product with potential and improve it into a six-figure property. Others are just looking to build a portfolio of properties that creates a steady cashflow with minimal maintenance. The market is a lot more mature than when I was buying domains on small internet forums. Private equity funds and publicly-listed corporations are also increasingly in the game.

You should also know that digital properties are much more volatile in price. A condo in Manhattan, NY or a 4-plex in Portland, OR might double in price in the next 10 years, but it won’t go up 2,000% or drop by 95% either. They also vary widely in the ongoing work involved. Some require hardly any maintenance, while others require ongoing marketing campaigns and a team of independent contractors.

One of the pathways to wealth is to find an asset type that you have a passion for, instead of a consumer product. Some people get $1,000 and spend it on video games, a car modification, or some nice clothes. Others get a kick out of buying another share of BRK, JNJ, or VTI stock. Same for a downpayment toward a rental property, reinvesting into their own private business, or to improve or acquire a digital asset. You also end up increasing your knowledge in that industry, which is highly valuable on its own.

Disclosure: I did sign up to be an affiliate of Flippa, and will receive a commission if someone clicks and lists a site for sale, but not if you just sign up for an account to browse listings.
