Before I “check out” of any online store, in addition using one of my best rewards credit cards, I always see if a shopping portal will offer me an addition rebate on my purchase. You have to carefully use their links to track your purchase. Two popular ones from which I’ve gotten checks from are Ebates and FatCash.
Right now, Ebates is offering new members a $10 sign-up bonus if you join and make a purchase by May 31st. I can get $10 as well if you list my e-mail address: .
Don’t forget that you can get rebates on many travel sites like Hotwire, Travelocity, and Expedia. (I always do.)
Please, not eBates.
Use the FatWallet as you like, what eBates does is makes you download a software to your computer, that is considered “spyware” or parasiteware. And they employ unfair business tactics. You can find more info here:

I’ve used eBates for years, and have never downloaded anything onto my computer.
I know of the software that you speak of, it basically pops up whenever you are at a site that you can get a rebate on to remind you to do so. Although it may be annoying or even parasite-ware, it’s definitely not a requirement to use the service.
You don’t have to download the eBates software to use their service.
Jonathan, have you looked at Jellyfish?

It’s interesting. Their smack shopping ‘game show’ is fairly popular, but you can get cash back on lots of purchases through their portal. I don’t have any experience with it, though.
Beware that some travel websites, such as expedia and orbitz actually charge you a booking fee on top of the normal room or flight charge. Typically this charge can be 1-2% and since the reward from ebates is 1-2% you are pretty much handing them your money and waiting to get it back. Always check the hotel/ariline website to see if the price is a few bucks cheaper, usually it is.
On the other hand, these rewards programs can be good for some items, such as refilled ink cartriges and electronics. Thanks for the tip.
I signed up through the link but did not get the $10. Got $5 instead.
I think it’s so funny that even in this post, where you want people to use your email address, you don’t show it as text.
Spam has really become a problem!
I’m getting smap text messages, and I’ve next downloaded a thing! no ringtones, no games, no joke-of-the-day, etc.

You guys might want to check out http://www.evreward.com
You punch in the online retailer and it will show all the different websites that offer cashback or bonus. I believe it will also show Ebates cashback %.
That way you can see which webiste (Ebates, my points, fatwallet, etc) will have the highest % cashback!
Same here, i received $5, not $10. Oh well 🙂
Hmm, not sure why it’s not working for some people.
Spam is horrible, it’s already over 50% of the messages I get.
I got $5 for signup too. Jonathan, I gave your referral so maybe the other $5 went to you 😉
I just signed up with an test e-mail, and I see the $5 pending bonus as well. I believe that if you make a purchase by 8/14, you will get another $5 additional bonus to make it $10 total. If you make a purchase after 8/14, you will likely get just $5, which is the usual bonus (hence the term ‘double bonus’ offer).
Signed up using you as the referral, thanks.
I also ordered a free-after-rebate item from Buy.com via the site to count as the first order, so we should both get the $10.
I just signed up and used your email. Do they have a lot of useful things to buy on ebates that’s inexpensive or something? What’s good about ebates?
Thanks. Using sites like eBates is always an afterthought for me. Use it get more money on a free-after-rebate item like Andrew, or just save some money when you do have to use a site to buy gifts or something.
Some sites I’ve used it for: Proflowers, NewEgg, Target, Buy.com, Gap, Banana Republic.
Thanks for the link – hope you get the $10!
The best one stop site for referral award is http://www.upromise.com ….you can get reward fro buying groceries and online and offline shopping.
Just to put minds at ease… when you sign up with Jonathan’s link, you will earn $10. It will appear in your Ebates account as $5.00 sign-up bonus, and another $5.00 referral incentive bonus.
Both promotions will be “pending” until you make your first qualified purchase through Ebates.
Also, there is no need to download any software or programs to be an Ebates member. No spyware, adware or anything like that.
Just earn cash-back while you shop online.
Thanks,
Ebates
So with these online banks, which ones have the best deposit options? Like if someone gives you a check, can you go deposit it in another bank’s ATM… like deposit it in a Wells Fargo ATM but it goes into your online bank account with your online bank?
If I am going to use it as my only bank, which one has the best deposit options? Free, of course.
I used the link from your site to sign up my sister and Ebates will not give me or her the extra 5 promotion, even after I sent the note Ebate Customer care left on this thread. Just thought I would let you know…..
It says it’s one per household, perhaps that is it?
Yay! The $10 showed up in my account after buying a $2.50 book at Half.com that I wanted anyway. Thanks so much!
Nope .. different households. Sister joined after my referral, I am a current member of EBATES, neither of us got the extra 5 bucks. Just thought I would let you know about the false advertising and inaccurate note on this thread from Ebates Customer Care. No biggie 5 bucks for both us was nice in it’s self.
Be aware that you’ll have to earn at least $5.01 in cashback from your shopping via ebates before you can ever hope to receive that $10 signup bonus.
“Every 3 months, we cut you a Big Fat Check for purchases posted during the previous quarter based on the schedule below. But if you’ve earned less than $5.01 Cash Back, we’ll carry over your money to the next check. We want to make sure there is enough “Fat” in your Big Fat Check. Bonus Rewards do not count toward the $5.01 minimum. The term ?Bonus Rewards? includes monies earned as a Sign-up Reward or Tell-A-Friend Bonus.”
I have made a qualify purchase of a computer for 2,221.68 from Sony.com through Ebates on 8/19/07 (over 2 months ago). For which suppose to earn me 4%of cash back. However, ebates have not credit my account as of yet. I have file a dispute on their website 30 days after I made the purchase and they claim that the merchants did not notify of the purchase yet. Therefore, they can not give me the credit. So I waited for another week and email them again. And guess what….they gave me the same answer as what they gave me the first time and said that they will contact Sony on my behalf. 2 months has gone by and I have not heard from them. I filed another dispute last week and have yet received any reply. It does seems to me that I won’t be getting that 4% back. I honestly think that when it comes to large purchase with larger amount of cash backs, they tend to come up with excuses for not paying. By the way, I have read their Term and Condition. It says that disputes must be made 30 days after purchase and no more than 90 days after completing the qualifying purchase. Are they trying to drag this case on for 90 days so they have a reason not to pay me the cash back? Hmm….I wonder…..??
I love Ebates- i do all my shopping through them, and get a nice check every quarter. They are still offering the $10 bonus sign up if you join and make a purchse by dec. 31st, 2007!!
The only problem I have with eBates is their low cashback rates. I have switched to higher cashback sites such as mrrebates and MonsterPaysCash. For bigger purchases, getting a 0.5% extra adds up.
