Groupon has a national deal this weekend that will get you five one-day rentals at Blockbuster Express kiosks for $2. The regular cost would have been $5. I don’t really get the limitation of one per person when you can buy seemingly unlimited as “gifts”.

Note: You can only use one free code per transaction. In order to use all five promo codes you must rent (and check-out) five separate times. I tend to use these Blockbuster kiosks more than Redbox ones simply because they are at Safeway grocery stores, but the idea is basically the same. You can return to any Blockbuster kiosk, not just the one you rented from.

If you are one of the six folks out there that doesn’t have a Groupon account already ;), please use my sign-up link, and I’ll get some Groupon credit for referring you. Then visit the deal link.

Valid through May 1, 2013. Limit 1/person, may buy more as gifts. Valid only at any Blockbuster Express kiosks and for online reservation for pickup at kiosks. Not valid on Blu-ray or Hot List titles. Groupon value reduces by $3 after 5/1/2013, except where prohibited by law.

  1. I’m curious about the “one per person” rule.

You don’t put any identifying information for renting the disks….

I use these all the time as they are in my local VONS…

they are a good way to fulfill the rewards checking requirements. 🙂

  2. looks like I won’t be using BB Express to fulfill rewards checking anymore..I bought 15 of these which should last me to May 2013.

The risk is if Vons (Safeway) keeps them that long…..

  3. @tj – At very worst case, you would have to use a different credit card after using up each set of 5 codes. You’ll need to use a credit card in case you don’t return within a day. But I combed the terms & conditions and saw nothing to that effect.

I also used these for rewards checking, at least for a while the additional days for being late just ended up as additional separate $1 charges.

  4. You’re right, I forgot about the required insertion of card even for freebie rentals.

I often get e-mails for buy 2, get 1 free – but this is a much better deal as I rarely would watch more than one per day.

I highly doubt that it will decline you because you used 5 codes with one credit card, but we’ll see how it goes. 😀

Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy recently. Maybe they should have utilized the Groupon thing earlier.

  6. i love these deals, not long ago i bought the redbox Groupon. $1 for 3 DVD rentals. these are typically $1 per rental

Be warned! I used one of these BBE groupons and got charged. I immediately contacted BBE by email to complain. (This JUST happened, so I have not heard back yet.)

However, re-reading my online rental confirmation email – I noticed the following disclaimer:

“Your rentals must be picked up and returned to the BLOCKBUSTER Express kiosk specified by the expiration date(s) indicated above.”

In other words, sounds like you do have to return the movie to the same kiosk you rented from, or they charge you. I returned the movie to a different kiosk, so I suppose they technically had the right to charge me. That being said, it’s obviously misleading, since you CAN return movies to any kiosk, and just a sneaky, underhanded tactic that results in you paying for the movie (in addition to paying for it through the Groupon)!

I won’t be using BBE any more after these Groupons are gone…
