Use ING Direct? Save 16% off your Sprint PCS bill every month!

I just got this in my ING Direct BrightSpots monthly e-mail newsletter:
“Sprint is offering a 16% discount on select PCS Services to all ING DIRECT Customers. Go to ingdirect.com/sprint to learn more. And if you’re already a Sprint customer, just dial #ING on your Sprint phone to reach a helpful ING DIRECT Associate from the hours of 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. We’re happy to work with Sprint and to offer you one more way to help you Save Your Money?.”

Nice! My brother uses Sprint PCS, I gotta send this to him. For example, if you pay $40 per month now, it’ll just be $33.60! That’ll save you $6.40 a month, or $76.80 a year. Wow, it pays to read those newsletters sometimes!

If you don’t have an ING Direct account, see this previous post for more information. You can also get $25 for signing up.

While I’ve only glanced at the site that you linked, it looks like you have to sign up for your service through them… Is there any way to get this discount on an existing account? I get 20% off through my employer. They gave me a ‘hierarchy number’ to give to Sprint to get the discount. If this discount can be added to existing accounts, I’d love to try and double-dip. I doubt they’d let a 20% and 16% discount on the same account slide by, but it would be worth a shot.

Well, the phrase “And if you’re already a Sprint customer, just dial #ING on your Sprint phone…” suggests that this would also be valid for existing customers. I’m sure they also are promoting new accounts as well. Maybe you or somebody could call and report back? We no longer use Sprint PCS for local coverage reasons.

I am an existing Sprint PCS customer but not an existing ING customer. Does anyone know if I should open the ING account first or if I have to somehow open it through the Sprint connection?

FiveCent – From what I’ve read at the different online forums, it won’t stack with the employer discounts (too bad), but it will stack with certain loyalty discounts (of about 5%). Also, current Sprint PCS customer CAN have the discount applied to their current accounts!!

Maribeth – I don’t see why you’d have to open it through the Sprint connection, as I said above existing Sprint PCS customers have added the discount to their plans, and I don’t see anywhere that you have to have had your ING account open for a certain amount of time.

I am an exisiting Sprint customer and got the deal. Here are the steps

    1. Call 1-888-788-4727
    2. This is the Sprint Customer Support Number. Ask them to transfer you to the Business Services section.
    3. Ask about the discount. They applied it without any verification.
    4. In this process they changed my account to a Business Account and changed the billing cycle to the first of the month.

  6. nickel Says:

JK: That’s exactly the same process that I went through to get my employer discount. I’m guessing that they won’t let me double up. I’ll have to try it to find out for sure.

I’m a customer of both ING Direct and Sprint. I’ve been trying for over a week to get this discount but every time I call Sprint, I get a different story. Today one of their reps told me that “the whole thing was a mistake and there is no discount offer”. I’ve called about a dozen different numbers at Sprint and even called ING to complain to them, but no one can seem to help. Next I think I’ll complain to the FCC and the FTC but the offer expires 7/15 so it will be too late to get any discount anyway …

I have both Sprint and ING Savings. I recently called Sprint about this deal and received it. I normally pay $100 but now I pay $84. So it really works.

Bob, I got the runaround from Sprint too! Finally I called ING but the deal had expired. However, the ING representative said that I would have had to change my Sprint plan, which I would not have wanted to do, in addition to signing a new contract. (Who knows if he had the right info or not.)

Glad to hear someone got the deal, though! For me, this might be one more reason to ditch Sprint and take my phone number to a cheaper/better service.
