TradeKing $100 New Account Bonus: No Promo Code or Referral Required (August 2011)

Online discount broker TradeKing has brought back their $100 sign-up bonus for new accounts, no promotional code or referral required. You must open with $2,500 and make 3 trades within 6 months. Offer expires 8/31/11.

To qualify for this offer, new accounts must be opened and funded with $2,500 or more. Account funding must occur within 30 days of account opening, and three trades must be executed within 180 days of account opening, for account to qualify. [...] The minimum funds of $2,500 must remain in the account (minus any trading losses) for a minimum of 6 months or the credit may be surrendered. Other restrictions may apply.

If you transfer an account of $2,500 value or greater over to TradeKing, they will also refund up to $150 in account transfer fees charged by your old broker.

TradeKing will credit your account transfer fees up to $150 charged by another brokerage firm when completing an account transfer for $2,500 or more. Offer applies to new non retirement accounts funding for the first time. Credit will be deposited to your account within 30 days of receipt of evidence of charge.

TradeKing offers $4.95 trades with no minimum balance requirement or inactivity fees. I’ve been using them for a while, they are a good basic broker for ETFs and dollar-cost-averaging. I am not an active trader or daytrader.

Is their interface better then Zecco’s?

I actually transferred my account from Tradeking. They are low cost and it shows. They don’t have any phone or online after 3 PM PST, which I find is too early for me. Simple things like recurring deposits require you to fill in additional paperwork (compare it with Scottrade where you can setup ACH within a few minutes).

do they do a credit check on me when openning an account?

Johnathan. I went for the last promotion you sent out for Tradeking: “I wanted to let you know that TradeKing is my preferred broker and,
with their improved “Refer a Friend” program, we can now get $100
bonuses in our brokerage accounts. To qualify, all you need to do
is open an account, fund with $1,000 or more within 30 days, and
make a trade within 180 days.”

I met all of the requirements, but no bonus after a month goes by. I contacted TK and the rep agreed that I had met the requirements and he was confused as to why I hadn’t recieved the $100. I’m still waiting for a follow-up. Has anyone else had problems with this?

I use both Zecco (non-IRA) and TradeKing (for Roth IRA). TradeKing’s interface is a bit better, but can be slow. The website security is also really strong, which can also slow you down when you just want to log in and make a quick trade (you can’t type your password in, you have to click on the letters on a virtual keyboard). But if those things don’t bother you, TradeKing is a better deal for IRAs since they don’t charge an annual custodial fee. For regular accounts, Zecco might be a tad better at $4.50 a trade vs. $4.95 a trade but that’s not really going to matter unless you trade a lot.

Typically they extend it by another 2 weeks too. So, you could assume it will be around for another month.
