Your promotion code has been accepted. Congratulations! Now all you need to do is make a deposit of $100 or more every month from September 2011 through December 2011. Click the Transfer Money link above to get started. You can expect your $50 credit before the end of January 2012. Enjoy!

Via NihmRodd of FW. I haven’t used my account in years, but this worked on my account even with a zero balance. Not a bad idea to spur on some activity, and $50 return on $400 within 3 months is a really good return on investment, better than any savings account. Note that if you make any withdrawal from your account during the promotion timeframe (September – December), you won’t be eligible to receive the bonus.

Don’t have an account yet? Check out this $50 bonus when you open an new Sharebuilder account and deposit $50 before 12/31/11. After you open the account, try and apply the promo code above to get both bonuses.

This is the first Sharebuilder promo I’ll have to pass on. Too much commitment with my 18 accounts there.

  2. Alan Says:

Just as a note, the email from Sharebuilder said “Only customers who have legitimately received this promotion invitation will be eligible for the promotion.” So it’s possible that they will cancel the bonus if you didn’t receive the email, but even if they do you’d only be out a couple bucks of interest that the $400 would have earned in a savings account.

  3. JR Says:

Can we transfer from ING account or we need to transfer from any cheking account? Any idea

  4. Stephen Says:

Hmm, I opened a Sharebuilder account about 1.5 years ago and have had $100 sitting in it never used since then. Until 2 days ago I transferred the money out. Figures that now they have a new promo! Any clue if you are still not eligible for the promo if you transferred the money OUT (in September) but BEFORE you enter the promo code?

  5. Brian Says:

You can setup a recurring transfer to start in September and end in December so that you don’t have to remember to do the transfer each month. Thanks for the tip!

  6. Andy Says:

Thanks, will try this out. $50 for a few min work is nice.

  7. unimax Says:

I got an similar email but it was for $25 bonus after the Sep-Dec period.

  8. Milind Says:

Does anyone know if the promotion still applies if those $100 are invested to purchase stocks/ETFs etc. using Sharebuilder’s Automatic Investment option. I still have some 10 free trades left which I got from Jonathan’s older post on Sharebuilder promo codes (Thanks Jonathan!).

  9. M.L Says:

I did not receive this e-mail. However, this is what I did. I sent customer service an e-mail mentioning that I received the e-mail and just asked them a question about the promotion. Therefore, from the outset they have an opportunity to let me know that they know I did not receive the e-mail. If not, I go ahead and put the money in as instructed. If I do not receive the promotion, I just send them a pdf of their response to my e-mail about the promotion. In the interest of good customer service, they will probably give me the money!

  10. Clark Says:

My wife received this offer via email but the promotion code was different (RCDP50). Maybe the OLRCDP50 code listed above gets you past the problem of having to have received the code via email.

  11. ted Says:

After sign-up with OLRCDP50 they now specifically put this disclaimer: “Thank you!
Your promotion code has been accepted. Only customers specifically invited to this promotion invitation will be eligible for the promotion the $50 credit that will be post (sic) before the end of Jan 2012.”

  12. Charles Says:

I saw this post and signed up for the promotion. I talked to ShB today about my tradeup up promotion and they told me that the promotion was on my account, but that I could only get the promotion if I was first sent an email about it from ShB. Could someone send me a copy (with all the account/personal info wiped clean) so that I have something to work off of when I try to claim the $50?

  13. Matthew Says:

My last transfer was made and I did not get any $50 yet. I was not invited to the promo though either. Anyone else have luck so far? When does the $50 hit?

  14. M.L. Says:

The fine print mentioned that the bonus will be credited by January 31, 2012. I was not invited to the participate in the promo either but hope that they honor it since I just executed my final transfer.

  15. lara Says:

I just called Sharebuilder to check on the status of this promotion on my account and they stated I would not be getting it since I wasn’t one of the customer’s who received the email. They said they track who gets the email now and that Sharebuilder only gives one bonus promotion per customer account. That means that if you received a bonus previously, you wont’ be getting any more…so I was told by the representative.

  16. Stephen Says:

Has anyone had this bonus post to their account yet? Mine hasn’t, but I’m still hoping it will.

  17. Vlad Says:

It’s January 31. Has anyone received it? I did not, although I did not receive their promo email either. I guess it turns out as a waste of time and lost interest for most of us. They accepted the promo code after all and clearly promised the bonus in the accompanying message. This leaves some sour aftertaste. They could have handled it better from the PR perspective, e.g. reject that promo code for those ineligible.

  18. Matt Says:

I didn’t receive it either. I’m pretty angry about it. I know it’s only $50, but I put effort into getting that $50 and have opportunity costs as well. Not cool, Sharebuilder.

  19. Tom Says:

Nothing either. I shot off a note to the help desk for answer.

  20. David Says:

    The response I got:

“Only our account holders who received a specific email back in September concerning this promotion were qualified to receive it. These were sent out to customers who had never funded their accounts and had never received a bonus before. I see where you actually received a $50 account opening bonus back in 2008 after the initial deposit. Nice.

If you haven’t received this bonus yet, you were not qualified, even though the promo code shows it may have been accepted. Unfortunately, many of these codes make their way onto online forums and blogs. Only specifically targeted accounts were able to receive the cash bonus.”

  21. M.L Says:

@David and others that did not get the $50

Reply back and confirm that you met the requirements. Include the following e-mail addresses: ceocorner@ingdirect.com and ombudsman@ingdirect.com. I mentioned that I did not know that the promotion was for a select group and completed the requirements; I should at least get something. I got a real time trade good until the end of the year.

  22. Pete Says:

I haven’t received it either and I’m actually very upset about it.

  23. sam Says:

Kindly put up only promotions that people can use. We could not get bonus. After fulfilling requirements, I went to sharebuilder and followed the requirements and added the promotional code, and got the message below which I noted down.
Your promotion code has been accepted. Congratulations! Now all you need to do is make a deposit of $100 or more every month from September 2011 through December 2011. You can expect your $50 credit before the end of January 2012.

But when we did not receive bonus, we called Sharebuilder to check on the status of this promotion on account and they stated I would not be getting it since I wasn’t one of the customer’s who received the email.

  24. Dave Says:

sharebuilder told me and a friend who used the promo code that we are not entitled to the bonus because the offer was not extended to us!

  25. Matthew Says:

I didn’t get this bonus either, nor did I get another $50 bonus or a $25 bonus for two other codes I used at the beginning of 2012, even though for those two bonuses I specifically copied and pasted the message I got from the website saying that my offer codes had been accepted. I’m pretty upset about it.
