Capital One 360 Changes Terms of $25 Bonus Promotion
In another brilliant move to lose potential customers, Capital One 360 has changed the terms of their $25 Opening Bonus to a minimum opening amount of $250. It’s a bit sneaky, because they will let you to open with only $1, but you won’t get the bonus. Instead, they claim you’ll just get “a friend for life”. Uh-huh.

This will probably only increase the number of people moving to Emigrant. I finished all my transfers today and I now have everything in Emigrant Direct. I know everyone has had trouble with Emigrant but it all went smooth for me. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens. ~mike
ps: I started my blog thanks to you (www.pfnx.com)

Yup, my transfers are in progress to Emigrant as well. Hope to get confirmation in the next couple days. I haven’t had any trouble either, but things are always pretty slow. Once in a while you get a customer service rep that doesn’t speak or read English too well – that’s pretty frustrating, but beyond that .. no real complaints.

I think this is a pretty poor business decision on their part unless they come up with something more compelling to compete against Emigrant and now HSBC.
I won’t close out ING, but that is because of their subaccount feature and that’s it. If I was just now looking for an online savings account I probably wouldn’t look twice at them not knowing how handy that feature would be for me.
I’m moving my true “savings” to Emigrant or am trying to. ED debited my opening $1 on 9/27, sent an email stating my letter would be sent TWO weeks ago today. Two weeks to get a letter? I know there was a holiday in there but…sheesh.
HSBC is looking tastier…

I’ll clarify in that getting a $25 bonus for putting in $250 in a no-fees no-min account is not that bad at all.
It’s more HOW they did it – quietly with no notice, no email, and the whole “friend for life” thing (You’ll see if you have an ING account).

When did this become official? I *just* signed my girl friend up with ING three days ago (though I sent her the link maybe a month ago). I think she deposited $100… Think we’ll get the bonus? Hopefully the fact that the link was sent a while ago will get us the bonus…

You might be right on the cusp, Miller. ING must have changed the policy in the last few days.

I believe that it happened on the morning of the 13th. That is when I noticed it and had been sending out invites daily before then. As far as I have been able to ascertain, links sent out before the 13th will still give the bonus with $1 even if they haven’t been used yet.

Yes, I put my money on 12th and got my 25$

Our main savings will be with Emigrant from now on. The opening process for Emigrant was smooth for me as well and the link from ING to Emigrant was a breeze too.
