HSBC Online Banking is now paying 4.25% APY interest, leading all no-minimum no-fees savings accounts. I opened one recently and just got full online access to my bank account earlier this week, and I’ll be putting up a review shortly. $25 opening bonus still looks active. Thanks to Amanda and Anon for the heads up.

  1. Has anyone been able to link ING, HSBC, or ED (etc) directly to each other? I have ING and HSBC now, but can’t link them from either website, and have to go through my Bank One checking.

  2. Ryan – ING took down the ability to link external accounts with only routing number and account number due to “security concerns”. They say it is temporary, until those issues are resolved.

On the HSBC side, HSBC uses CashEdge for transfers, and no bank using CashEdge will let you link ING, as as far as I know. Their routing number is not recognized as valid. I think this is ING’s doing, again for “security concerns”. Very annoying.

Short answer: Not anymore, currently. You have to do it via a third party bank like you mentioned.

  3. That’s what I was afraid of.

  4. This is great news for those of us that use HSBC for our regular banking as well. The HSBC direct uses the same online interface as your normal accounts (loans, investments, chx/savings) and transfers between accounts are instant, so I don’t even have to alter my direct deposit form.

  5. I have ING, ED, and HSBC.

Plan to move $ from ED to HSBC if ED doesn’t do anything by Monday…

  6. I have HSBC, ING and ED. I linked ED and HSBC successfully, in fact it was pretty easy. Right now my money is sitting in ED, but like A said, if ED doesn’t do anything by Monday, all of it is going straight to HSBC…

  7. Ryan – Have you considered opening HSBC’s Free Checking account? No minimum, no monthly maintenance fees, and no direct deposit requirement!

I think I’m going to open one up to link to the Online Savings account.
