Free Kindle eBook: Saving for Retirement without Living Like a Pauper or Winning the Lottery

Right now you can download a free copy (expired as of 9/18) of Saving for Retirement without Living Like a Pauper or Winning the Lottery by Gail MarksJarvis. It’s at the Amazon Kindle store, but you can download a Kindle app to read them on your PC/Mac, smartphone, or tablet.

I’m not really sure why this book is free now, it came out in early 2007. I actually remember getting a free PR copy for review. From what I recall after skimming it, the advice was good but pretty much the standard advice you’d get elsewhere. Start saving early, save on taxes by putting it in an IRA/401k, invest in stocks for the long run, and so on… except it was pre-2008 so stock return expectations were probably much rosier. I’ve read so many books like that I’m tired of them, but if you’re looking for a book covering the basics, why not start with this one for free. (If unsure, “buy” it now anyway, since the price might go back up at anytime.)
