This is a follow-up on the previously mentioned 50,000 bonus points offer (converts to $625 in travel) for the getting the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. Thanks to readers Paolo and AT, they shared a way to get double those points, even if you’ve already applied.
Apparently, some people were recently mailed targeted offers for the same card, but with 100,000 points (converts to $1,000) instead. The problem was, you needed a special invitation code so there was no public application link. However, some clever folks who already applied for the 50k offer asked nicely for Chase to match with the offer code S6V, and many success stories have been reported on FW.
I was just able to successfully get 50K applied to mine and my wife’s accounts (just applied this past Sat. night in fact) and it was really painless, took 5 minutes. 200,000 total!
So the plan of attack would be:
1) Apply for the 50k offer. That’s the best available offer, and even by itself is a great offer worth $625 in travel. If you’ve already applied, skip ahead to:
2) Ask politely for a match of the new 100k offer. After getting your card, use the Chase website to send an online secure message requesting a match of the new, improved offer. There are no guarantees on this – you should be prepared to be happy with the $625 bonus – but it’s definitely worth a shot and I’d do it sooner than later. Use this helpful script from Paolo:
Dear Chase Representative,
I just this past weekend applied for my new Chase Sapphire Preferred card with a 50,000 sign up bonus of 50,000 points after spending $4,000.
Today, I learned of a new offer S6V which promises 100,000 bonus points. I would be very grateful if you would extend the 100,000 bonus point offer S6V to me as well since I just applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card.
I have been a long time customer of Chase, and have had my primary checking and credit card accounts with Chase for many years and hope to maintain them for many more years to come!
Kind Regards,
[Your Name]
I would customize this to your personal situation, mentioning your length or size of relationship with Chase if applicable. Update: Some people are reported that this window of opportunity has been closed.

I did this yesterday when I saw it on SD. I already did my $3k purchase and my 50k points were credited on my account. Sent a message through their email system and got a reply back within a couple hours that an add’l 50k points were added on. Sure enough, I now have 103,000 points. Sweet.
It worked! Jonathan, you just made me $500. Thank You! (I might as well go home from work now)
I got the reply from Chase in about 10 minutes. I have really enjoyed being a Sapphire customer. I get compliments almost everytime I present it to a cashier. I think I’ll keep it even after the annual fee!
Wow! Just worked for me also, despite the fact that I was approved for the card on May 19, 2011. I used the script but changed a few things. Also got my response within 10 minutes.
Thanks!!!
It worked. Thank you!!
It did take about 10 minutes and the best thing is they will just credit my next statement. (Meaning I don’t necessarily have to spend $3000 to get these bonus points)!
I was just going to close my old Chase Freedom today. So, I Decided to wait until I get my bonus points. Since I told them what a loyal customer I was and all that jazz. Too funny. I am sure I probably would have gotten the reward anyway, but just funny timing.
On further inspection, I just realized that after receiving the approval message for the S6V offer, my account was *immediately* credited with 50,000 points. And I haven’t event spent the $3k minimum yet. I just got $500 out of thin air. Amazing.
Thanks again for the tip.
“On further inspection, I just realized that after receiving the approval message for the S6V offer, my account was *immediately* credited with 50,000 points”
After reading that I checked, and same for me. Woohoo!
I was rejected over the phone. 🙁
So I just got the response:
“I would like to inform you that, once you have spend $3000.00 within the first 93 days, you will need to re-sumbit your request for the additional 50,000 points, however, make sure that it is within the first 93 days and we will be happy to have the additional 50,000 points added to your account.”
Sounds promising. Thanks!
Did you guys send it as an rewards inquiry? I sent it as an other/inquiry not listed and haven’t heard back.
I chose “other/inquiry.” It was 6am or so. I suspect they are getting a lot of e-mails today!
Just did it for my card and it worked the same as above. Got the card 5/27, hit the 3k threshold on 6/14. They gave me the better offer and immediately credited the extra 50,000 points within 15 minutes.
I chose Rewards Inquiry and here’s what I got within about 10 minutes. Something tells me that this has spread pretty quickly:
“I would like to inform you that, once you have spend
$3000.00 within the first 93 days, you will need to
re-sumbit your request for the additional 50,000 points,
however, make sure that it is within the first 93 days and
we will be happy to have the additional 50,000 points
added to your account.
There was other touchy-feely stuff in there about every relationship being based on trust, and mutual trust between a bank and a customer being no different (?), but that was the gist. Anyway, figured I’d post – truth be told I haven’t spent that much on it yet, but within the next few days I will be giving that card quite the workout.
thanks for the tip – great stuff as always, Jonathan!
jm
I chose “other/inquiry not listed”. Got this response in less than five miuntes…
“I would first like to take this opportunity to personally
thank you for choosing Chase to manage your finances.
I have reviewed your Chase Sapphire account and I can
confirm that as per the introductory offer on your
account, you will receive 50,000 Chase Sapphire First Use
bonus points after spending $3,000.00 in purchases within
93 days of your account open date. These points will post
to your account within one to two billing cycles after
that.
Also, I feel that every relationship is based on mutual
trust and support, including one between a bank and a
customer. As a gesture of commitment to you, I have added
additional 50,000 bonus points to the rewards balance on
your account. This adjustment will reflect on your next
statement.
You can redeem the 100,000 points in total for $1,000.00
cash back.”
5 minutes = $500!! thank you thank you!!
Yup, I just sent Chase a message. After a few minutes I got the exact same message as josefismael. NOTE: I’ve only spent <$300 up to this point, but it's only been a week.
As always, thanks so much for the tip Jonathan!
It worked for me as well, got my response within 10 minutes.
Thanks!
Awesome, thanks Jonathan! I just submitted (under Account Inquiry) and got my response every quickly. They said they would give me the extra 50,000 points. I logged into my account and I don’t see the points yet, but expect to see it shortly ! Either they have a script or the same person who responded to JM responded to me since I got the message about the mutual respect as well.
What a great way to start the day!
It worked for me instantly just now!
Maybe it depends on the relationship with Chase.
I’ve had checking, money market and freedom credit card as well and the checking was kept for 5 years.
Thanks a lot for this info!
Great tip ! Worked for me too. Got response in 10 minutes and 50K points already credited to my account. I have yet to complete the $3K purchase and get the 50K points based on original offer.
I did this on Sunday and was initially worried that I was too late. I’m astonished that this is still working; I figured that someone would come in on Monday and shut it down. They’re giving away so much money! How do they justify this? (I’m not complaining, just confused)
Got an email response within 10 minutes and I also got the 50k point bonus! This is fantastic! Thank you so much!
So, do you think poor folk can get approved for this card? I make under 25k but everything else is good for me, I have credit history, have never made a late payment, have low utilization ratio, etc. etc. Can you still get approved if you don’t have a high income?
Worked for me…and points already reflected. I am yet to hit 3K spending and and receive original 50K points. Assuming I get the original 50K points I am goint o make this my primary card for the foreseeable future in return for this nice gesture from Chase.
Also… most of you may have experienced this, people at sales counters like the Sapphire card when handed over to swipe the card… it feels havy and non plastic and is immediately noticed by anyone.
My request just got denied…
“I would like to inform you that, when you apply for a
card, there are various sign up offers given to the
cardmembers which changes from time to time. Regretfully,
I am unable to honor your request for additional 50,000
bonus points as a sign up offer as your account doesn’t
meet the required criteria regarding unique offer id and
invitation code. ”
Am I the only one that doesn’t meet the criteria?
Got denied too… was asked to show proof of mailed invitation code (in addition to the offer code)…
I just called ….. turned me down, said that no one that didn’t get the invitation is getting the 100,000 points. 🙁 will try an E-mail when I’m near a computer.
Would some that has successfully written them and received the extra points please tell us step by step what you did and if you can what you wrote them? Tx!
+1 here- best return on 5 minutes of effort I’ve ever had. I haven’t charged a single thing on the card yet, and I have 50K bonus points.
Best. Deal. Ever.
It did not work for me either. Here is the message I got:
I would first like to take this opportunity to personally
thank you for choosing Chase Sapphire for meeting your
financial needs.
As per your offer, a new customer will receive 50,000
bonus points after spending $3,000.00 in purchases within
93 days of account open date.
Further, I would like to inform you that, when you apply
for a card, there are various sign up offers given to the
cardmembers which changes from time to time. Regretfully,
I am unable to honor your request for 100,000 bonus points
offer as your account does not qualify for this offer. I
apologize for the inconvenience.
However, if you were sent an invitation for this offer, I
request you to kindly reply to this email using the Secure

and either myself or one of my colleagues will be happy to
assist you.
I appreciate your co operation in this matter and value
your association with Chase.
Thank you,
I was declined as well. I sent a secure message on both my account and my wife’s account and got different reasons for the decline of bumping up to 100,000. For what it’s worth here are the reasons from the two different CSRs.
“Dear XXXXXXXX,
I am writing in response to your e-mail inquiring the
reward scheme currently promoted for Chase Sapphire
customers.
I understand that you have received an offer for 50,000
reward points and would like to receive an offer of
100,000 points. It is never our intention to cause
inconvenience to our customers due to the different
offers. The offer which you received was the offer
promoted at the time of your application.
Further, it is the marketing team which decides such
offers and promotes them for new customers while the
application processes. Keeping the volatility of the
markets in mind, different offers are made available at
different times. Please note that the offer was an
acquisition test offer only and was sent to a select
customers through direct mail. Regretfully, this is a non
transferable offer, therefore, I am unable to honor your
request for 100,000 bonus points as a sign up offer.
I sincerely apologize that I am unable to meet your
expectations in this matter. Nothing would have pleased
me more than to provide the resolution you are seeking.

And here is the other one.
Dear XXXXXXXXXX,
I have received your inquiry with regards to the rewards

I have reviewed your account and would like to inform you
that, the offers keep on changing on a regular basis.
However, please be aware that new applications are

code and the unique invitation number, and either myself

We look forward to hearing from you soon. If you have any

I got my card this month and just got denied as well…blah blah, ” Regretfully, this is a non-transferable offer, therefore, I am unable to honor your
request for 100,000 bonus points as a sign up offer….”blah blah blah.
🙁 maybe i’ll try again once i hit the $3,000… Would have been nice.
Thanks for the tip anyway.
Tessa
My request was denied as well. I wrote a reply urging them to reconsider and did not receive a response. It is also past the 4 hour time frame which they promise to respond by.
Just got denied as well. I’ve even already met the $3K requirement.
I used the “Rewards Inquiry”, FWIW.
I suspect they caught on to all the requests, and quashed the deal for those that applied for the 50K offer. Congrats to all those that cashed in! This deal was almost as good as the 111,000 Venture Rewards Points ($1,110) you could get on the “Match my Miles Challenge” offered on the Capital One Venture Card a couple months ago–all for just spending $1,000. I’ve had the Chase Sapphire Card for awhile, but prefer the rotating bonus points I get each quarter with the Chase Freedom card. Aside from the easy access to customer service over the phone, I’m not sure I see any material advantage to using the Sapphire Card (vs. Freedom Card–which offers more cash back). Am I missing something?
I saw this post this morning but figured I would wait until I got home from work to do anything. Looks like it is pointless now since you are all getting denied. In addition, I just applied for the card 2 or 3 days ago so I don’t even know if I will be accepted so it would ridiculous for me to message them now. I might try if/when I get approved for the card although it seems like Chase closed this little loophole up before they lost “millions”.
Sounds like they’re starting to deny everyone now that the word is out.
Here’s’ my denial letter when I tried to email them through the Ultimate Rewards.

Unsurprisingly, when I sent a similar message today, it was denied. As I expected, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to try.
Thank You!
Worked yesterday June 21st around 9:00am for me. Great blog! I’ve been able to benefit financially through several of the tips on your website.
I tried first thing this morning and was denied, getting the same response as “zero”. I’m going to try once more and see where it gets me. I figured it can’t hurt. As always, thank you for the tip!
denied . . . same as the last few folks . . . .
denied also
Thanks for killing this deal by posting it on your blog.
Denied as well. I’m going to try replying that I know others have been granted this and that I’m going to take my business elsewhere (checking / savings / another CC) see if that gets me anywhere.
Wow Sanz, cheer up dude. Jonathan helped quite a few blog readers with this post. It was spreading like wildfire all over the web anyway.
anyone have an offer id they’re not using?
I finally saw my card show up in my account today so I decided I had nothing to lose by requesting the extra points. They informed me that they could only help me if I was sent an invitation code which I obviously wasn’t so I guess I’m out of luck like a lot of you. The worst part is that I could have sent them a message on Monday morning when I first read this post but I just chose not to since I hadn’t been approved yet. I read today that some person applied on Monday morning and an hour later requested the 50K points and received it before the card even showed up in his/her account.
Has anyone called Chase to ask for an invite?
Rejected. This is the response I got.

unimax,
The response you got makes a lot of sense. The only part that is completely unfair is that they gave some people the 50K bonus points while rejecting the rest of us. They should have sent that message from the beginning to avoid this whole mess. Maybe Chase will learn their lesson now. Did anyone else notice that the 50K offer seems to have been taken off the web now? The only offer I now see is 25K points for the regular Chase Sapphire.
If folks are willing to provide about 10 promotional codes, I can attempt to figure out the auto-generation algorithm to generate some new valid codes. If Chase decides to check physical addresses, we’d be out of luck, but it’s worth a try.
I just received my 50,000 card today in the mail, and I sent a secure message asking for the upgrade just after opening up my new card, and not yet activating it. They denied my request for the upgrade to 100,000 points. Below is how they responded to me:
”

As of today, one blogger was denied the extra 50,000 points after Chase told her in writing that she would receive it after spending $3,000. Even after threatening to close all of her Chase accounts (not an empty threat). One long-time customer lost.
Another blogger who was way behind the tide and just asked for the deal today, was told that Chase was “removing points from customer accounts” in regards to the deal. I have no idea why they would say something like that in the first place. ??? Way to win points with your customers!! Tell the ones you haven’t pissed off how you are pissing off other customers.
I can’t even imagine how many people they promised these extra points too, to react in this manner. Wow!
anyone’s points were taken away? mine disappeared today morning! :((
Sj,
Were you one of those people that got the bonus 50K points without an offer code? If so, did you leave them in your account all this time instead of redeeming them or did they now give you negative points? Have you reached your $3k in spending yet to get the legitimate 50k points?
i got my points only yesterday (after sending many mails) and before i could think of doing anything with them it disappeared overnight. when i called in today morning, i was told that i was not eligible and the system removed the points automatically because i did not have an offer code (in other words, the marketing department reviewed my account and removed the points). i asked them what if i had transferred those points to continental or used it. they replied that i would not have received my original 50k upon 3k spend. quite weird i must say. if u have 50k in your account, please go ahead and use it. i am not sure how many more customers would be affected like me.
Sj,
Did you tell them that you had received the offer code even though you hadn’t? Or did you just charm them into finally giving in? Anyway I feel a little better knowing that I didn’t miss out afterall if all of those people that spent their points won’t get the original 50k like the rep told you. I am slowing working toward my original 50k as I was declined for the bonus points the one time I asked.
Basically I requested them to extend the courtesy to me like they did for many others who did not receive the offer code. I think someone did post the points but the final approval was declined by the marketing department. I wont be surprised if many others who received 50k bonus will not see the original 50k upon 3000 spend. Whatever happens, its not a fair practice to give points and take away without even letting the customer know.
Sj,
I definitely agree with you that it’s not right that they didn’t inform you what was going on until you noticed what happened. However, I think this way is fairer than them giving the 50K points to some people and not others even though none of us received offer codes.
Hello,
I applied for the card (with 50k bonus points). followed the advise on the blog to get the extra 50k for a total of 100k. however, it did not work. here is the response they sent to me:
Dear XXXX,
I am writing in response to your inquiry regarding the
additional bonus on the Sapphire account with Chase
Kindly allow us to explain that many of our promotional
programs are offered by our Marketing Department at random

solicitation code was sent through a direct mail to take
advantage of this offer. If you have received any mail
regarding the offer please provide us with the invitation
code and the offer id, either myself or one of my
colleagues will be happy to address your concern.
We regret that we are unable to credit any additional

have caused you.

Yes, I did receive the offer- the offer code S6V
Please confirm
I got this in response, does anyone happen to have the invitation number and offer code?
Dear Thomas,
I have received your e-mail request to apply for 100,000

I got both…$1k+ cash for me…sweet!
Update: I was one of the ones that they didn’t deny outright (see my comment above), so now that I’ve hit my $3000 threshold and cashed out my original 50k points, I decided to ask again. They accepted and fed my account 50,000 points within the hour (!). Here’s the wording I used in case anyone else wants to give it a shot…..best of luck to all!
—————————————————–
Dear Chase Representative,
Recently, I applied for my new Chase Sapphire Preferred
card with a 50,000 sign up bonus of 50,000 points after
spending $3,000.
Shortly after, I learned of a another offer S6V which
promises 100,000 bonus points. I had asked about an
opportunity to take advantage of this promotion and a
Customer Service Advisor (see text below) had advised me
to resubmit my request for the additional 50,000 points
once I had reached the $3,000 spending threshold.
I believe I reached this threshold earlier this month, so
I m politely requesting the opportunity to take advantage
of the promotion mentioned above. I have been a long time
customer of Chase, and have had credit card accounts in
good standing with Chase for many years and hope to
maintain them for many more years to come!
Kind Regards,
Josef Maung
Is this Chase Sapphire card a Mastercard or Visa or something else?
I received the e-mail stating I needed the 12 digit invitation code and when I politiely asked again I was told that the matter was conisdered closed unless I provided the 12 digit code. I’m sure they got a lot of these requests, I’m sure it’s the luck of the draw now. If you get someone that’s willing to give you the points or not. I will try again after I get the 50K points I originally signed up for.
It’s a Visa. I know, it’s not clear at all from the ads – all the real card info is on the back of the card.
For those of you who received the 100K offer, can one of you post the phone number and authorization code (10 or 12 digits?) that was included on your offer letter?
Just redeemed my points for over $1,100 in Jetblue tix across the country for Christmas to visit my girlfriend. Thank You Chase!
Tried it today, got the same email as josefismael and Thomas.
I went to the Chase branch today. The offer of 100K is not available online but it’s available at the branch until March 4th or 14th. You must spend $4k to qualify. If you add another person on the account, it cost you an extra $75 on top of the $450 annual fees.
