Citi ThankYou Preferred Rewards Card – 10,000 Point Limited Time Offer

Citi has rolled out a limited-time promotion for its Citi ThankYou® Preferred Rewards Card. Get 10,000 bonus ThankYou Points after you make $500 in purchases within the first 3 months after account opening—good for $100 in gift cards. There is no annual fee with this card to worry about.

With 1 ThankYou Point for every $1 you spend on all purchases and 0% intro APR on Balance Transfers and Purchases for 12 months. After that, the variable APR will be 12.99%-22.99% based upon your creditworthiness. Enjoy global acceptance and enhanced security with your Citi Card with Chip at merchants that use chip terminals to accept payment and points don’t expire or have a cap on how many you can earn.

Also, there is a new Citi Price Rewind feature that protects you against future price drops. You must register your purchase, and then if the same item is found with a price at least $25 lower than what you paid within 30 calendar days of your purchase, you can be refunded the difference.

  1. Looks like Amazon dollars are only available at a .8 cents per point rate to me.

  2. @T – First, make sure you’re not doing the “Shop With Points at Amazon.com” which does work out to 0.8 cents per point, but actually buying a $25 Amazon “e-code” gift card for 2,500 points.

Next, the ThankYou network does different exchange rates for different cards – it is rather annoying. I know the ThankYou Preferred card does get the 1 cent rate. If you don’t, do you mind sharing all of the card types that you have linked to your ThankYou network account?

Wal-mart gift cards are also available again now on ThankYou network, they’ve been on and off recently.

  3. I’ve only got a Citi Forward card. Amazon e-codes are listed at 3,500 points for $25. If I get a Citi Preferred card, will my existing points be redeemable at the full 1 cent rate?

  4. Yes, all you need is one “premium” card linked up to the same ThankYou account, and all your point can be redeemed at the higher exchange rates. I believe any ThankYou card (ThankYou, ThankYou Preferred, ThankYou Premier) will count. I also believe the MTVu and Forward cards are considered “plain”.

I have a CitiBusiness, regular ThankYou, and Forward card and I see the 1 cent = 1 point redemption options.

  5. LargeTalons says:

So, does the full reward come after spending a total of $6000? Or, if I spend $3,000 within the first month, do I then have to wait 5 months to spend the other $3,000 in order to get the final 20,000 pts?

  6. Jonathan,

If I already have a Citi Preferred card from a different promotion am I still eligible to apply for this offer?

  7. @LargeTalons – My interpretation is that you have to wait 5 months. The terms state “You do not need to qualify for the first 20.000 points to be eligible to earn the second 20,000 points.” so they are separate bonuses essentially. It appears to be an attempt to encourage you to get accustomed to using the card past the sign-up bonus. I’d just set an Outlook or calendar reminder.

@Eric – That’s a good question as there are multiple ThankYou flavors. It does say “new cardmembers only” so if I had a ThankYou Preferred as opposed to Premier or regular, I would probably assume not.
