UPromise: Free Bonus for a $6 or $8 Head Start

Many people have heard of Upromise, a service that gives you cash back towards college for various types of shopping activities, from shopping online to buying certain groceries to dining out. I actually don’t use them hardly at all, because most of their cash-back programs are watered-down version of other programs such as Rewards Network, formerly iDine. The only thing I have linked to them is my Safeway Club Card, which gives me 5 cents every time I buy a 12-pack of Diet Cherry Coke (good stuff). So my grand total right now is $4.26, supposedly to put towards a 529 (although you can get straight cash back).

I actually have like 20 something bucks piled up in Upromise, from the pennies I get back at exxon/mobil gas station..

you get like one penny per gallon or something. I forgot. since my next door mobil station is often the cheapest, I take advantage of it a lot.

I also get a few percentage back when I buy some autoparts at pepboys.

KC3 code gives you only $3 for signing up. Use BN5 to get $5. Total: 5+3 = $8. Credit goes to a poster at FW.

  3. Caitlin Says:

I was in the pennies (basically coke products and cereal from the grocery store) until my new washing machine netted me $35. Somehow that felt significant ;)

But the best was an unexpected dollar from a restaurant I ate at while traveling for business…sigh. It’s the little things.

    nice, I’ll check this out…

  5. Claire Says:

LSD, how do I enter both codes? I’m a member already, but I figure I’ll sign up in my son’s name to get the promotion. If I do BN5, KC3, will it register both?

    Thx.

I’d like to link your article to my blog tomorrow. A lot of folks will appreciate your tips.

Success! It turns out you don’t have to be a new member to go to the 3 URLs listed above. I was able to get the $3 reward on my account, my spouse’s account, and a new account I created for my son. $9–not bad.

Still not sure how to use the BN5 promotion.

  8. LSD Says:

BN5 is signing up bonus, for new members only. Enter it during registration when it asks for promotional code. You can use only one code when signing up. So, it is either BN5 for $5 or KC3 for $3. I’d rather go with $5 ;)

The other three URLs can be redeemed by anybody who has an Upromise account.

  9. Michael Says:

    The $5 one works…did it a few days ago…

  10. Ty Says:

Not sure if this is worth it but for those Upromise members, check this out.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought it worth mentioning the Citibank Upromise card again. In addition to the better-known 529 investments plan, a less well known (but wonderful) benefit of Upromise is that one can use it to pay down existing student loans. Only a few loan servicers participate, but now Sallie Mae is added to the list, as they bought Upromise.

You can pay back student loans with your rewards from upromise. Since 2004, with the Citibank card primarily, and family and friends as well, Upromise has paid $1300 to my student loans!! Consider that this is paying down principal which would continue to accrue interest otherwise. So, I think of it as Citi/upromise paying me $1300 plus interest too. Can’t beat that! I far prefer this to cash rebates!

I know this is an old post – but FYI, The BN5 doesn’t give you $5.00. It also doesn’t add $1.00 if you go the “cornpops” “ricekrispies” or “applejacks” sites as noted above. This must be old info. I just tried all of them when I joined Upromise.

  15. If You’re Gonna Buy Online, Get Cash Back » My Money Blog Says:

[...] Upromise has a similar thing, but the cash back seems to be always less, and you need to jump through extra hoops to get your money. There are also other shopping portals, like MyPoints and Mileage Malls like WorldPerks Mall that work in points, but I like cash.
