Online bank WT Direct has extended the terms of their $150 bonus promotion such that you only need to have your account funded by August 15th (previously July 31st).

You can read about the details in this previous WT Direct $150 bonus post. Keep in mind that this change actually makes the numbers for the promotion a bit better, since now you only have to keep your money there for 2 1/2 months instead of 3 months. Depending on your opening balance, you’ll get somewhere between 2.95% to 3.2% APY during your 2.5 month commitment. This is a higher yield than any bank CD that I’ve seen of similar maturity length.

  1. I’m extremely frustrated with WTDirect right now. I went through the usual application process online, verified my trial deposits, and thought everything was all set…until I never heard back from them about the final step in the process – setting up a username/password and funding my account.

So, curious about their non-responsiveness, I called customer service and the representative told me that, because I had recently moved, my account was flagged for review and they were supposed to have sent me an email about how to provide two additional documents to verify my new address…which they never did. The rep said she would have them send the email right away. OK…annoying but OK…but then they never sent the email.

I then had to call back a second time to get them to send me the email. And now I have to track down some sort of proof of address, which is funny because I just moved 2 weeks ago, so I don’t have any statements yet. (Which I explained this to customer service only to hear that there wasn’t anything they could do.)

Anyway, the promotion looks good and the customer service people have been nice, but I don’t get the feeling that they’re particularly interested in my business, so I think I’ll just move my funds to one of my numerous other online savings accounts.

  2. It looks like you have to have an active mortgage or loan to open the account from the website’s 3 proof of ID rules. I emailed them to see if there was an alternative to this 3rd form of ID like a bill with your address on it..also if the promotion code is blank when u go to the website does that mean you are inelgible or are you supposed to type in wfit. I know Money Blog guys says type it in, but the website says you’ll know your elgible when you see the 1st 4 letters wfit which makes me think their should be some code more than 4 letters already there when you go to the 1st page in order to get the 150
