Employee or Student Discounts for Cingular, Verizon, Sprint, Nextel, and More
Just about every major cell phone provider has discount for large corporations or groups, even when it’s an existing personal line. While most people know about their company’s discount, some do a bad job of advertising them. In addition, many students can get discounts using their school e-mails in some of these programs. Others require you to be an employee of the university, which many students also are. So grab your work or school e-mails, visit these links, and find out what discounts are available to you. You may be pleasantly surprised! I was able to get 15% off with Cingular Premier using my school e-mail.

Cingular: Premier Corporate Discount Program
Cingular has business agreements with thousands of corporations, government agencies and educational institutions to offer wireless products to their employees and families at a significant discount.
Verizon: Employee Discounts
Enter your work email address to see if you qualify for discounts. If the work email address matches our files, we will send you an email that will help you determine your eligibility for a discount (personal email addresses cannot be accepted).
T-Mobile Corporate Discount Program
Employees of contracted T-Mobile Business Customers may request a corporate discount. The discount ranges from 0% to 15%, per Business Customer monthly volume.
Sprint / Nextel: Employee Value Program
Sprint has business agreements with hundreds of corporations and government agencies to offer wireless products and services at a significant discount when purchased online or over the phone.
AllTel: [can't find one?]
There’s definitely discounts for certain corporations and universities, but I can’t find a specific link.

Verizon gave me a 25% discount for registering my school email. Weeks later when my friend tried it he only received 15% off. The savings certaintly add up quick because it also minimizes the taxes you pay.

I think you should also mention that Consumer Reports just completed a nationwide survey of almost 43,000 people in 20 cities about all the cell phone companies. Sure Consumer Reports isn’t free, but if someone here is a subscriber, they sure certainly read it.
shortened link
As the free article summary says, Cingular and Sprint were at the bottom in most cities while Verizon and T-Mobile were up there.

Yeah, I get a 14% discount on monthly plans from Cingular thru my company’s business account too. That’s a little over $7/month.
December 19th, 2006 at 8:53 am
My wife, a teacher and a member of our State Education Association, got an offer for 13% off Verizon. I need to get my butt in gear and get that one. Especially since our current plan is better than anything they’re currently offering.
If only they all offered the SAME benefits….free calls to/from all members, “a buddy list” for top 5 numbers, $5/100 minutes overage charges and/or rollover minutes, free text message receiving (especially when they txt message “offers” to your phone and then charge you to receive the marketing), and free roaming nationwide.

Spint has put forward their SERO - Sprint Employee Referral Option to everyone these days. You no longer need a Sprint Employee to refer you . Just Google and I am sure you will find references.
December 19th, 2006 at 11:05 am
Who the heck would want a Cingular account in the first place?
December 19th, 2006 at 11:54 am
I just checked out the Cingular site - I could get a 15% discount through my school but when I go to register it says:
“By checking this box I am agreeing to a two-year agreement for wireless service under the terms and conditions listed below beginning today.”
Jonathan - I know you did this last year through Cingular. Are you under a new contract at this time? I don’t want to give up my month-to-month status.
December 19th, 2006 at 1:03 pm
I have Sprint SERO with the following features:
500 anytime minutes
Free 6pm and Weekends
Free Vision (unlimited web access, picture, email)
Free Unlimited text messages
Free Unlimited Sprint PCS picture mail
The plan is really $30 a month + $5 taxes = $35 - discount - drop calls = $20 a month.
* $10 off each month by doing drop calls.
* 15% off each month through company discount.
* Another 10% off each month by sprint loyalty discount.
go to http://www.sprint.com/sero and use the e-mail address savings@sprint.com to sign up.
Get a PPC-6700 cell phone and use it at a modem, which come with EVDO, hence you get wireless to your laptop anywhere!
December 19th, 2006 at 1:41 pm
When you get the Premier e-mail, click on the link and look for the part that says “Already a Cingular Customer? See if you qualify for discounts” You should just need to log in and they will validate you. It takes a few days(?) and the discount will start showing up on your bill in a cycle or two. I did not have to extend my contract.
December 19th, 2006 at 1:56 pm
I actually had the SERO stuff up in my original post, but then saw that it was supposed to expire 12/18 and the site wasn’t taking the saving@ e-mail. It looks like it’s back. More info is at HowardForums too.

Hi Jonathan, I input my email address “XXX@temple.edu” as a Temple University email account, but it showed up as “state of texas employees”, which I am not. In the last step, it asks me to certify that I am “state of texas employee”, why? Anyone meet the same problem?
December 19th, 2006 at 3:30 pm
Temple is a public state university right? So if you work a job at Temple, I would guess that you’re an employee of the great state of Texas
December 19th, 2006 at 3:45 pm
Not really. Temple University is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania….They might have something wrong in their system…
December 19th, 2006 at 4:01 pm
LOL, oops
I was thinking Temple, Texas. Maybe they confused it with templejc.edu?
December 19th, 2006 at 4:11 pm
So do you think I should go ahead and claim the discount anyway?
December 19th, 2006 at 4:13 pm
Why not? It’s the only way to find out. Worst case scenario there is no discount for Temple University. Best case there is and you get a discount.

Sprint SERO plan:
website: http://www.sprint.com/sero
email to use: savings@sprint.com
and enter your zip code…voila for $30 + taxes unlimited data by itself is worth it especially since you can use it on your laptop too. The 500 min and unlimited nights/weekends starting at 7PM is sweet.
December 19th, 2006 at 9:44 pm
I always try to switch carriers but T-mobile deals are too tempting.
Just signed a new contract….$225 cash back plus i sell the new phone on ebay for about $60 and use the old phone. (from amazon.com)
$39.99 for 600 min + free nights and weekdns.
So for $285 cash back thats like 6 months free service.
December 19th, 2006 at 10:21 pm
My school, Bryant University only gives 6%. Going to check why my brother’s work gives him then choose the better of the two.

There’s a pretty great forum for other Sprint plan reviews, tips, tricks, etc at http://www.sprintusers.com. If you read it regularly, you may learn about promos before they’re released in your area.
December 20th, 2006 at 2:47 pm
Great post. You are absolutely right in stating that wireless cariers don’t advertise employee or student discounts.
December 21st, 2006 at 6:30 am
Thanks. I qualified for a 17% discount.

[...] Jonathan Saved Me 17% By Flexo on Thursday, December 21st, 2006 at 9:30 am, filed under Deals, Verizon, Cingular Jonathan from MyMoneyBlog posted about wireless plan discounts based on the company that employs you, so I decided to look into Verizon’s Employee Discounts to see if I qualified. Good news! Within the next two billing cycles, I will have a discount of 17% applied to my bill. [...]

I have been using the employee discount feature for a few years now. I get 25% off any plan! (I work for a VERY large company)
I’m actually considering changing my plan because they have come out with better plans since I signed up a couple years ago. I’m kind of delaying though because I want to see what kind of new phones come out in the first quarter and I really like my month to month status.
December 28th, 2006 at 1:11 pm
Thanks to my fave money blog for saving me some dimes. Just signed up for a new Cingular account and saved the activation fee + 15% on monthly service thanks to my company’s agreement with Cingular. I wouldn’t have known about this if you hadn’t pointed it out in your blog.
So THANKS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

February 10th, 2007 at 4:08 pm
Does anyone know what is the deal with Inphonic/Wirefly, I had $400 last year and it took me 9 months to get my rebate after 44 phone calls and 32 emails, my friend he could only get his $200 rebate and could not get his other $200. If you google it up you will see how many thousands are having rebate problems with this company. What I can not understand is even Bestbuy.com signs a deal with this company, who is behing this company , does anyone know? I was going to buy a Treo 700 from Sprint with the SERO deal but when I see Inphonic selling it for Sprint and there $350 MIP, I changed my opinion. Is there any other way for me to buy this phone from Sprint and still get theSERO deal, thanks,

Does anyone know how to get inside of Verizon to get the employee discount such as Sprint SERO?
March 19th, 2007 at 3:47 pm
cingular offers 11% discount for military personnel. they also temporarily suspend service if you have to deploy to iraq!
April 6th, 2007 at 9:59 am
link
On the Verizon site, go to “Business” , then “employee discounts”. They will send an email to your business email address telling you the amount of the discount.
April 7th, 2007 at 7:19 am
Connecting a phone to a laptop without a laptop add-on plan, such as on Sprint, violates their TERMS AND CONDITIONS. You’ll eventually either get 1) charged by the KB for laptop data used or 2) dropped from Sprint/carrier like a bad habit.
May 23rd, 2007 at 4:29 pm
just got the sprint sero plan. i didn’t get free text, .15 each, and I tried to get a company discount and they told me they couldn’t combbine discounts, that sero was already discounted. should i try again?
May 24th, 2007 at 7:05 am
SERO is an employee referral program and says it is for a limited time only. I show it expires 6/30/07. Is the expiration date for entry into the program or is this when the free web and text program ends? Does anyone have the answers?
May 25th, 2007 at 8:32 am
Free web is given with SERO and will be as long as the program is offered. The 6/30/07 date refers to the ending of the Unlimited Text Messaging promotion.
June 2nd, 2007 at 3:15 am
To follow up on my earlier post about Cingular’s discount counting as a 2-year contract extension - it does, even if you leave the university a few months after signing up for the discount and call to cancel. I was able to talk them out of charging me the fee, but beware and YMMV.
June 19th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
Hey Hustlermoneyblog,
in regards to :
“The plan is really $30 a month + $5 taxes = $35 - discount - drop calls = $20 a month.
* $10 off each month by doing drop calls.
* 15% off each month through company discount.
* Another 10% off each month by sprint loyalty discount.”
can you use a corporate discount rate of 15 or 20% along with the SERO program? Also, what is the $10 off thing and 10% loyalty rate you were talking about???
September 6th, 2007 at 5:55 pm
What will happen if you leave the company? Will they find out?
September 10th, 2007 at 10:00 am
I don’t know about if you call customer service, but I know if you go into a Cingular (ATT) store, they can add discounts for you if you just tell them where you work/student/whatever and when I worked in a Cingular COR, we didn’t extend contracts when you added a discount. So if you go to the website and you don’t want to check that box about the contract, go check with someone at the store and let them add it. They don’t get anything for it but you won’t have that contract on your back.

I just got back from a business trip in Vegas and I found out about a 15% discount for Sprint. It works on every voice plan so you arent limited by SERO. The discount is available to family, friends, employees and dealers of Luxottica (aka Lenscrafters) this is a good discount and saved me over $ 40 a month.
The code is good for existing Sprint customers you can get the discount by calling 866-853-4931 for Sprint or 800-390-9545 for Nextel. The code is Sprint: 0583325597 or Nextel NLUUI_ZZZ
They also have a website to get the discount on new phones.

I have just logged in to SERO and I am planning on getting the $30 plan wich gives me 500 min and unlimited data transfer. Doe anyone know if this unlimited data transfer is similiar to the vision pack being offered for $15 through sprint or is it something else.
November 13th, 2007 at 2:45 am
RE: Chucks question.
SERO 500 plan will give you the Vision pack.
I’ve actually got a Moto Q on that plan which is considered a Power Vision phone (no extra charge). I recommend you get a Power Vision phone. Case in point. I had a PPC6700 (vision phone) & it would not receive signal to get email in my office. With the Moto Q (power vision) I was able to receive email in the office & practically anywhere. It will drop down to 1x sometimes instead of EVDO, but it’s pretty reliable & so much better than the PPC6700/Vision.

The Sprint/Nextel employee discount site allows you to enter in your work email address and find out if you qualify for any employee discount. It is really sweet! Once you enter in your work email address, the website sends you an email with a direct link to access the corporate pricing that you receive and has options to add your discount to your existing Sprint/Nextel account. They also have discounted pricing on new activations and phone upgrades. If you can’t get the email to work, call the Employee Value Program at 888-457-6294.

Hi,
I recently bought a Sprint phone (treo 755p), and I heard about a student discount. I don’t know if I can still get the discount? I go to UCLA. I already have a plan and agreement. Am I able to get a discount off my phone after having paid for it? Thanks for your help

hey….so, what’s the Sprint Employee email address to enter so I can get a SERO plan?!
February 26th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
As of Feb. 26, 2008, this email address still works, however, you don’t get unlimited texting. savings@sprintemi.com
That offer expired on the 16, then again, who knows, in a few months they’ll probably restart that promotion (considering my friend has had this plan since 2005 or so)

I know this is an old post, but I found it today and wanted to say THANK YOU. The Verizon link in the post is down, but I was able to get to it from the “sorry, page not found” page.
I put in my work email address, got an email, and was given 21% off, just like that. THANK YOU! THANK YOU AGAIN!

Thank you! The discounts vary on the school/organization. I’ve transferred to various universities and typed in 3 school emails. AT&T gave me 20% monthly for one school while gave me 15% off monthly another school. T-Mobile has some great deals too (for AVON reps, there’s a link online, you don’t have to be one and you get 12% off monthly, free activation, etc.) But in the end, I chose to go to AT&T and leave T-Mobile for the Blackberry Bold and the amazing 20%!

Hey everyone,
I am looking at switching from T-Mobile to Sprint in about 3 or 4 months when the Palm Pre is released. The only thing I do not like about the Sprint plan is that you are required to get the all inclusive plan when you get a data package. I use about 1000 minutes a month and do a lot of texting, so this would be about 100 per month. I am currently only spending $70 with T-mobile, so I am looking for a way to potentially lower my sprint bill if I switch. Does anyone have any good ideas that will help me lower my sprint bill (20% off or a good employee program)? Any assistance would be greatly appreciative.
March 11th, 2009 at 3:44 am
Does anyone know of any A T & T discounts?
March 13th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Doug K.
I am looking at leaving T-Mobile for customer service issues. I am leaning towards Sprint. I visited a Sprint Store in the Twin Cities and the rep told me you can get a 10% off monthly discount for having an AOL email account, which you can get a free one.
