Free $100 Amazon Gift Certificate For Credit Card Signup

The American Express Starwood Preferred Guest Card is currently giving out 10,000 Starwood points for signing up and making any purchase. I just discovered while planning a trip that you can trade 9,500 of those points for a $100 Gift Card to Amazon.com, Gap, Nordstrom, Banana Republic, and a few others.

I’ve had this card for a few years as a rewards card, since you can also use the Starpoints efficiently for free hotel stays and airline miles (you can get 1.25 miles per dollar spent). Annual fee waived for the 1st year.

I’ve added this to my list of $100 bonuses for credit cards. Pay for your holiday shopping by milking the credit card companies, instead of having them milk you!

For more rewards, there is the American Express Starwood Business Card, which is also offering 10,000 free Starpoints.

Anyone know how long it takes to get an AMEX after a bankruptcy?

I filed in 1998, had a few thousand I owed AMEX that went away in the filing - I think they’re made at me ;).

Since then, perfect payment history, oldest credit card is from 1998 with perfect history, low revolving balances (under $3K total), 749-768 on all 3 reporting agencies (checked today) at freecreditreport.

Bankruptcy is still on file, its supposed to drop after 10 years - is that how long it will take for me to get a sweet AMEX card?

    Thanks for any info.

10k Starpoints for a $100 Amazon GC? ouch. 20k points can be transferred to 25k AAdvantage Miles which is a much better deal.

  3. Jonathan Says:

Yeah, that 1.25 miles per point is good if you can and manage to book one of those 25,000 mile free flights. I like using them for hotel stays myself - no blackout dates, and I’ve gotten $100 rooms for 2,000 points. But $100 at Amazon is probably easiest for many people.

    Jonathan,

While i do agree with you about the easiness of redemption for people who don’t want to be bothered with Miles and Points etc etc. :)

Frequent travelers will definitely benefit with accumulating Starpoints because the reward system is one of the best in the business.

$30 yearly fee after first year. that means I’d have to cancel this card which affects my credit score. anyone know how long a cancelation stays on your record?

  6. AmDollar Says:

I had a hard time booking a flight/room with the miles on my frequent flyer card so I cancelled mine a long time ago. There were too many stipulations/blackout dates and ultimately became too much of a hassle.

another note to this discussion on the Starwood Credit Card.

It is one of the few credit card that has improved its terms for cardholders. For example, you now earn double points for every dollar you spend at Starwood properties (versus only one point previously).

As Al mentioned earlier, the most attractive feature is the ability to transfer points to air miles on 30 airline partners and get a 5,000 bonus miles when you transfer 20,000 points.

But what is even more interesting and useful is that the Starwood program has more frequent flyer partners than the Membership Rewards program or the Diners Club reward program. So for expatriates or foreigners who come to the US and find that their domestic carriers do not have US cards to earn air miles, the Starwood Card is a great way to earn miles for foreign airlines. The $30 annual is peanuts compared to the Amex Charge Cards or DIners Club Charge Cards

*wood program has no blackout dates. If there is a room you can have it for points.

  9. miker Says:

re: cancelling because of the $30 fee, would this card be on the “business cards that don’t actually show up on your credit report” team? like mentioned here

How do you redeem for a $100 amazon gift card? I browsed their reward site and couldn’t find amazon…

  11. Jonathan Says:

Yes, if you got the business card it would not show up on your personal credit report.
