Free 1 GB iPod Nano with MBNA Jets MasterCard

nano.jpgMBNA is offering a free iPod Nano (1 GB version) when you get their New York Jets Extra Points Mastercard. It comes with Jets engraving on the back, but if you’re a Giants fan I’m sure you can scratch that right off ;).

The card also comes with an introductory 0% APR on balance transfers, but has a 3% balance transfer fee, so I really don’t think it would be worth it even if you could eek out a slight gain after taxes. There are definitely better no-fee 0% APR offers out there.

The rewards system is very Jets-oriented, if you’re a huge fan it may be of interest as you can get things like pre-game sideline passes.

To get the iPod, you have to open the card and make purchases totaling at least $100 with 90 days of opening. It also says to allow up to 12 weeks for delivery after qualifying. If you’re planning to eBay this sucker (current retail $149), you’ll have to remember it’ll be 3-4 months from now until you sell it and it’s value may drop. I’d still estimate you could get $100 out of it after PayPal and eBay fees (if you can manage not to keep it for yourself.)

Here is the fine print:

To qualify for this offer, your new account must be used to make any combination of purchase or cash advance transactions (including balance transfers) totaling at least $100 within 90 days of the date the account is opened by MBNA (exclusive of transaction fees, if any). Limit one (1) item per new account. Supplies are limited. Allow 8-12 weeks for delivery after qualifying. Offer sponsored by MBNA: we may substitute an item of equal or greater value and we are not responsible for lost, stolen or undelivered merchandise. Apple is not a participant or sponsor of this promotion.

I have outstanding credit and yet when I applied for this card, it said that it could not give me a decision online and I have to wait for a written response within 30 days…..hmm…wonder if I was rejected.

I was paying $70 a month for HD cable during the football season. Since then I stopped watching TV, except for the occasional Law and Order. I dropped cable and I got NetFlix instead. I watch about 1 movie a week. I am very content because I would just waste time watching anything on TV when I was eating dinner or relaxing. I will go back to cable when football comes back.

I got 2 questions 1. They say they can substitue for another item, what can that be? Secondly, do you need to make 2 types of transactions as in a purchase and transfer, or cash adavance or just a apurchase over $100 is fine?

    When does this offer expire?

I just got an offer for a “free” dell laptop from Visa preferred. They give you the laptop upfront, an $850 value, but require you to BT $5000.00 with no fee. Then they require you to keep a balance of $3500 for 18 months, with *at least* 9.99% interest, variable. Should you not keep that balance, there is a one time “fee” of $600.

Sounds like you’d be bending over for them if you took this offer…

If you weren’t instantly approved, call this number a couple hours after you apply: 1-800-932-2775.

  7. Jonathan Says:

I think it just has to total over $100. So I’d just buy things until it adds up to $100. I have no idea what they’d substitute, that’s a pretty common thing in fine print for offers like this.

Just called and they said it is still pending. Their online processing/instant approval sucks!

The balance transfer fee is not capped! So watch out.

got my cards today. but,it has no mention of any free ipod nano. do we have to call them up to request the free ipod nano?

  14. Josh Says:

“Hi could this be a scam to get your vital personal data?”

No, it’s an application for a credit card.

“got my cards today. but,it has no mention of any free ipod nano. do we have to call them up to request the free ipod nano?”

No, all you have to do is spend the required $100 amount and then they’ll automatically send you the iPod after 6-10 weeks. Currently they are on backorder but will be coming, if you make the qualifying transactions.

    “When does this offer expire?”

    It expired on 5/24/06

Got my free New York Jets iPod nano last week. It was sold today for $100 after posting on Craigslist for just one day. There is great demand out there. I probably could have asked for a higher price in the $120 range. Although when I researched for the price to set at, 1GB nano was getting a bit less than $100 on Ebay on average.

  16. Bui Tee Says:

    Thanks for the link.

I received the Credit Card on 5/31/2006.

Today (7/24/2006), I received the iPod Nano.

    Thank you.

  17. Ugly Says:

Thank you - I got my iPod yesterday.

  18. Michael Says:

Got mine two weeks ago, thanks for the heads up!
