AT&T Universal Rewards Card

The AT&T Universal Rewards Card is offering 10,000 ThankYou Points after application and first purchase, which is equal to a $100 gift card to various merchants such as Gas Stations, Target, Banana Republic, and Home Depot. You can also get $100 cash towards student loans. This offer has expired.

The rewards program is pretty dull, unless you spend a lot of money on AT&T products. You do get a few free directory assistance calls and cell phone insurance, with a maximum value of $100 and a $50 deductible. Good credit needed for approval.

Interesting. Too bad I already have it. Can i open another one?

BTW, your RSS feed does not seem to be working. Can’t load your site via RSS.

  2. Susannah Says:

Great deal! The 10,000 Thank You points will come in handy, too. It will push us over the edge to have enough to get 2 tickets to Hawaii!

  3. Jonathan Says:

Ack, stupid ampersands. Thanks for the heads up, the RSS should be back.

2 tickets? How nice of you to get one for me! :)

The rewards program may be dull, but boy do the points add up fast. I’ve maxed them out ($300) every year I’ve had it, usually by August. Five cents on the dollar for groceries (family of three, soon to be four) and gas (two cars, two commutes) adds up REALLY quickly. It’s a great compliment to our Costco Amex and Citi Simplicity and Professional cards (tip of the hat for the recommendation on those, btw).

On another note, I posted a comment a while back regarding a second balance transfer on the Citi cards mentioned above. Not worth it. The 0% APR grace period ends after the INITIAL balance transfer, not after EACH transfer. Oh well.

  5. ATT Says:

The only problem with using AT&T is that they give your data to the NSA. Which is illegal.

i signed up for this card and i got the confirmation screen that I got signed up for it. But I never got an email confirming my sign up and when I try to sign into the website the account and password I created does not work. Should I have gotten an email or should I just wait for the card to be sent in the mail? Thanks.

  7. John Says:

FMI, how long will I be required to keep this CC before cancelling and still maintaining the reward.
    Thanks

  8. Jonathan Says:

Andrew - I’m pretty sure you have to wait until you get the physical card in the mail, so you can get access with your credit card number. I don’t recall getting any e-mails after applying.

John - You get the 10,000 points after your first statement (maybe 2nd). After those points show up in your ThankYou account, you can redeem them for a gift card or check and then cancel the card.

Does anyone have any idea what kind of credit is required to get this card?

  10. Wes Says:

I signed up and then went online and get an error. I can’t even call them. I hope it wasn’t a bogus site!

  11. Wes Says:

I signed up for it but was a little concerned when I would log in and just got error messages on the account web site. This went on for a few days. I finally got a call from Citibank.

Apparently this is just a Citibank card with an ATT label on it.

They called me and offered me a 2nd card in addition to the first one I signed up for. The 2nd one is called a “AT&T Professional” card. You get some snazzy quarterly reports with it. It’s meant for use as a “work” card.

After confirming that there were no fees, 0% balance transfers, no credit inquiry for the 2nd card, and I get 10k points on each card, I said “Sure, I’ll take both”.

  12. Luu Says:

Thanks very much. You have a great web site. I learn a lot from you.

I have looking and reading your articles everyday. I just have the courage today and signed up the ATT card.

According to them, this card still have the Gas, Supermarket, and Drugstore “5 ThankYou” points per point spent.

Wonder of this deal is dead in October 13 2006 just like expected?

  13. Eugene Says:

I got my AT&T Universal card yesterday.
The credit line was small - $4500. I called them up for increase.
Both the representative and his manager that I spoke to said that
    - they don’t give credit line increases in the first 6 months after opening the account
    - they are not sure where I got this idea about $100 gift card after first purchase. they claimed that there are different promotions and I’m not part of any promotion for this card.

Is that just me or anybody else had the same problem?

    Thank you
    Eugene

  14. Luu Says:

Eugene: Give them the link where you applied, and stated that 10,000 thank you points after the first purchase.

  15. Joe Says:

Eugene, Yep they’re jerking me around too-they only gave me 5600 points-I used the link that was on mymoneyblog, but using that link now only list 5000 points does anyone have the original link?

  16. Joe Says:

    Eugene,
Here’s their web site listing the 10,000 bonus points link

  17. Jonathan Says:

Weird. The link I had up says 6,000 points now. In the link Joe put up, it says 10,000 at the top, but the fine print says only 5,000. Seems like they are tinkering.

  18. Luu Says:

    Joe
Me too, they only give me 5600 points. I also used the mymoneyblog link. and it was 10,000 points when I sign up on September 1st 2006.

I am trying to call them up and dispue with. They told me I have to show the proof I sign up with 10,000 points.

Let me know if you get the points, thanks.

  19. Jonathan Says:

A reader reported that by using the online contact form they got the extra 4,400 points (NOT by calling in). In many companies they are different departments (online vs. call-in).

  20. Luu Says:

I tried online and call in, and it does not work. I am mailing in a print out of the ATT promotions page. don’t know if it helps. I will see what happens. Thanks.

  21. Eugene Says:

After faxing them original web site link with 10000 points on it they gave me another 4400 points (in addition to 5600 they gave me initially)

Now my dad has the same problem and web site was modified to show 6000 point only. Does anyone have original link?

    Thank you
