Some Cheap Financial Magazines
I just ran across MagazinePriceSearch.com, which helps you compare prices on subscriptions, with some even rivaling those on eBay. Beware that some sites listed auto-renew you when the subscription expires! Some current examples (none of these auto-renew):
Kiplinger’s Personal Finance - $4.91 for 3 yrs. (36 issues)
Forbes - $6 for 2 yrs. (52 issues) $6 for 1 yr (26 issues)
U.S. News & World Report - $8.73 for 1 yr. (52 issues)
I just picked up Forbes for some cheap bathroom reading. [Update: My initial Forbes order was cancelled. What a waste of time. You can get $6 for 1 year from another site.]

Wow! What a find.
$6 for Forbes, it’s almost a steal.
I might have to take them up on that offer.

Thank you! Coincidentally, I’ve been searching
online recently for cheap/free subscriptions
without any luck. I just started blog browsing
on money topics and came across your post.

A while ago, I went to http://www.freebizmag.com and filled out my information and was offered several free 1-year subscriptions, including Software Development, WindowsITpro, and others. Over a year ago, I got a free subscription to Forbes, but can’t remember if it was from FreeBizMag or another source. As soon as the year is up, they start including a bill; that’s when I just call to cancel.

If the link isn’t working for you, this page should help. Ad blockers are likely responsible.

I just got some kiplingers and forbes subscription.
Thanks for the tip.

Don’t you guys think that these magazine places will actually use your name and address and sell it for profit? They can make quite few dollars based on your identity. While telemarketing is dying down, it’s not totally gone. You will get calls, trust me.
April 14th, 2006 at 10:19 pm
That would be a neat trick, considering I never gave them my phone number

Some problem with my pop up blocking software..I got the kiplinger’s, do you know if it really takes 12 weeks for the subscription to start ?
thanks!

Thanks! Subscribed to Forbes.

Cool, thanks for the tip. I got a free Kiplinger’s subscription a while back with airline miles and liked it, but wasn’t about to pay full whack. Less than $5 for 3 years, tho, that seems worth it.

How to find out if mag auto renews the subscription? I a wary of signing up for these 1 year “trials” because of that. Pain in the ass to unsubscribe
April 15th, 2006 at 12:40 pm
The magazine won’t, they’ll just send you a bill. It’s the website that might re-bill you after the subscription ends. Think of the site as a price comparison engine like PriceGrabber. You still want to research the site you actually buy from.

Oh Goodie! Thanks! Just put in a subscription for Forbes and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. An EXCELLENT deal referenced from an EXCELLENT blog!
In reading your blog, you just never cease to amaze me with all of the goodies you find. Your site has virutually transformed how I look at the world of finanace! Once again, thank you!

The sites that automatically renew are clearly marked. You could always use a one-time use credit card if the best price is from an auto-renew sites.

Turns out the $3/yr Forbes magazine promotion through MagazineForce was nothing more than a bait-and-switch tactic. Got an e-mail this morning stating that my order was canceled because they cannot process subscriptions at the promotional price they offered (although they’d be happy to process it for $59.95). Dishonest or simply incompetent? You decide. Either way, I’m staying away from MagazineForce.

I got following e-mail from MagazineForce.com. I am hoping it is not a scam to get your credit card number and address. I am going to put a watch on my credit card. Scary -;
Hello,
You are receiving this email because you placed and order for Forbes Magazine through our website. Unfortunately, the publisher has rejected the order and is not allowing us to process subscriptions at the promotional price that we offered. We have cancelled the order and refunded your credit card. It can take a day or two for the credit to appear on your credit card statement. We would like to apologize for this inconvenience.

Well I tried for the Forbes one but the order just got cancelled a couple days after I placed it:

So I will try for the Kiplinger’s now instead I guess. I am guessing I was too slow on the offer for the Forbes but hopefully others got in on time!

My order was cancelled as well. I’ll edit the post.
I’m not worried about fraud, these are credit cards, you can just call to have the charges removed.

I also got my subscription to Forbes cancelled. Make sure you scrutinize your credit card statements for the next few months. Some scammers will charge a small amount as a test before sticking your card with an expensive item.
FWIW, I have been matching cc receipts and cc statements for the last 22 years. It drives my wife crazy, but I have found several errors over the years, with none of them in my favor.

My order for Forbes is cancelled too.
Here is the email I got,

I got a confirmation, they charged me for $6 for Forbes (I picked the double offer). No email yet. Maybe they just ran out of subscriptions offered at that price and mistakenly oversold.
Anyhow, just be on the lookout, watch your credit statements, and check your mail regularly to see that all things go well.

Did you ever get your maagazine? I still haven’t seen mine yet….
July 10th, 2006 at 2:02 pm
I still haven’t gotten my Forbes and Kiplingers magazine subscription.
September 25th, 2006 at 6:19 am
I still haven’t received my Kiplingers - this is taking a little too long for my comfort level. Anyone received their subscription yet?
September 29th, 2006 at 5:26 am
My Forbes order was cancelled personally, and I never got the Kiplinger one. Did they charge you?
