Cheap Real Christmas Trees at Ikea
Not sure if this is at all locations, but at my local Ikea they are offering (real) Christmas tree ‘rentals’ (forget the type, I think 5-7 ft high) for only $25. If you bring it back within a certain window in January, you’ll get a $10 Ikea Gift Card back too. 15 bucks for a Christmas tree! I’m still trying to convince the missus not to get one because it’ll just be us two this Christmas. Also, we don’t have any of the trimmings like a stand, lights, tinsel, ornaments, stars… Not sure if I’ll win this battle, though.

With all the financial advice you give out, I’m surprised you don’t just buy a fake tree after Christmas on heavy discount, and then use that for the future? Renting a tree is just like leasing a car…you pay money but in the end have nothing to show for it. Buying seems like a better investment to me.

To each their own, it’s all personal preference. Can’t be practical 100% of the time, some things are just tradition. No fake trees for us, it’s real or none.
We could also celebrate Christmas on the 28th of December

You’re right, my omission, I didn’t mention they were real - whenever I think Christmas trees, I automatically think real good-smell, sticky-sap, falling-needles strap-on-the-car Christmas trees. =)
Fixed it. I just had a thought, maybe they want you to return the trees to them so they can chip them and make them into more Ikea furniture? That would be clever.

When I lived in a condo there was a xmas tree in the lobby. Couldn’t convince my future wife at the time that I had a tree. It was just in the lobby.

Oh, and I am supposed to officially apologize for calling my wife “the missus”. Somehow that was read as derogatory. I will now refer to her as “the boss”.

It’s good to maximize your investment gains — but don’t be a scrooge over it. Buy the tree. Make the wife happy. You will wish you did on christmas eve and christmas day when she won’t talk to you for ruining christmas.

I agree with Marc. Go with the tree and fixin’s, for The Wife’s sake. It can only help your offense for future battles.
Besides, it keeps her busy for an entire weekend once you lug it in and set it up, and then another day around the New Year to tear it all down.
