$35 Opening Bonus for 3.75% APY HBSC Online Savings Account

HSBC Banks’s Online Savings Account (features mentioned previously), an ING/Emigrant Direct no-minimum no-fees clone, is currently offering a $35 Opening Bonus for new customers. The bonus code, which is already part of the URL, is ‘ccs20‘ in case you need it. I haven’t opened an account here, and am debating whether or not the $35 bonus is worth for an account I may or may not use, but hey, free money is free money. Anecdotally, they are only doing a “soft” credit pull to check your identity, so your credit score likely won’t be hurt either. Offer expires 10/31/05.

Hmm, up to 45 days to get the money in the account. $35 in 45 days, with $0 dollars invested. That seems like pretty good interest to me. :)
Any reason I can’t just open and close the account 45 days later? Am I correct in that if it’s only a soft pull, there won’t be any damage, or even show up as an open and closed account? I mean, it’s a saving’s account, not a line of credit.

I heard that you can get excellent exchange rate when you withdraw money thru a HSBC ATM in foreign countries.

Just make sure you can close the account without walking into a physical branch if your plan is to close it out (or live near a branch of course…)

ah geez. right after I applied for the $25 bonus.

I think I may use it.. I’m still waiting for ED to mail me my letters.

I really want to switch to Presidential, and although I have enough to waive the fees, I keep thinking I may need to suddenly withdrawl it all one day.

its emergency savings for me, afterall.

This is a great offer. This beats the regular ING bonus of $25 but not the super ING Bonus of $50 but still a great deal!

I just opened one yesterday and HSBC confirmed my banking info.

According to a CSR, there is no credit check at all for savings accounts, only a ChexSystems check.
