GreenZap “Online.” - First Impression: Still Shady.

I posted about GreenZap two months ago, as a supposed PayPal alternative that was (and still is) offering $25 for “pre-registering” prior to their Summer 2005 opening. Well, it’s summer, and it looks like they’re open. Kinda.

First, to activate and claim your account, you’ll have to login to GreenZap.com with your previously chosen e-mail and password. They e-mailed me my password, so that was good. You have to verify your address, and now they ask for a phone number. I gave them my corporate headquarters phone number, although maybe I should have given them Walmart’s.

You also have to accept their privacy policy, which basically says that you have to let them distribute your personal information such as address, e-mail, etc. You can only opt out by closing your account.

You then have to choose if you want to “Go Gold” or “Stay Green”. Since going Gold meant depositing $100 to this company of unknown legitness, I stayed Green. I suggest you do too, at least for now. They then send you another confirmation e-mail. You log back in, and now you have “Cash”, all of which is pending(?), and some “WebCash”.

I’m still trying to figure out the rest. I know that WebCash is an online-only GreenZap currency, of which right now there is no place to spend it (supposedly coming soon). Cash is able to be withdrawn via Bank Account, Check, or GreenZap Debit Card. I’m sure not giving them my banking information. But hey, if can buy something with the free webcash, I’ll stick around for a bit more.

I’ll try to learn more later, here are some links that talk about GreenZap (plenty more on Google/Yahoo).
