Free iPod Shuffle for opening a brokerage account with ex24.com
(This deal has expired)
ex24.com, a new type of online brokerage, is offering new members a free 512mb Apple iPod Shuffle with code IPODRP for opening an account with them with $500 minimum and keeping it there for 6 months (edit: and make one trade, i.e. one buy order, no need to sell). If you value the iPod Shuffle at $99, that’s at 40% annualized return! Not bad, at all. Is it for real you ask? Yes, it is for real because I just got my iPod a few days ago! Check it out:

I actually got in when they only wanted $100 to open. I was pretty skeptical, but they came through! iPods rock, and now my wife has one.
ex24.com is a different kind of brokerage, where you actually sell shares between you and other members, and thus can operate 24/7. Only about 50 stocks are available, but most of the big names are covered. The prices have not been far off from the actual stock market exchanges, and they have systems in place so you can’t really take too much advantage of market inefficiencies. But you do have the opportunity to buy stock under “market value”. It is designed principally for people who have about $2-5,000 to invest. I personally just bought me one share of Costco (COST), since I am a loyal cheese-vat-buying customer. I figure, if they ever stop their customer-centric ways, at least the stock price will probably go up.
You can even do the initial funding via PayPal, and therefore a credit card and get points or cash back. Note that future funding via PayPal will result in fees. You can also do an ACH/EFT from your checking account with your routing and account number, which is what I did.
Don’t have $500? or hate Apple? You can also open with $100 minimum and get $24 cash. To do this, you’ll need a referral. Just e-mail me and I’ll be happy to refer you. I’ll get $24 too. That’s like getting a free share of Microsoft (MSFT) for both of us!
Buying a stock costs between $0.10 - $2.00 per share (Max $5.00/order), and selling is free. Fee schedule here. Feel free to post questions.

So what if I deposit 500 dollars, use some of that deposit money to buy stocks. Do I have to put in extra money to keep 500 in the account or no?

You must deposit $500 and make one trade. As long as you don’t take any of that money out, even if you go under $500 account value you still get the iPod. I bought a share of Costco and it dropped my balance below the minimum and they still sent me the iPod.

Do they let you pick the color of the iPod?

It’s an iPod Shuffle, I think it only comes in white…

I just looked at their website and found no mention of the Ipod offer. Is there something I need to know to find it? Has it expired?

[…] In the end, I sold a crude oil future with a maximum gain of about $97 and and maximum loss of $3 (it calculates this for you). As you’d expect, it was very unlikely that I’d win that $97. However, I just wanted the iPod, so I made the trade and ended up losing $2.50. Not bad for a Shuffle. Funnily enough, I already have one from another expired pseudo-brokerage offer. […]
