Earn 5% back on every dollar you spend when you use your registered American Express Card to fill up at any Phillips 66, Conoco, or 76 station until March 6, 2011. You must register here first.

  1. Thanks Jon! I love hearing about these promos. 🙂

  2. Apparently membership reward cards (the best AMEXs to have) are not eligible.

  3. I’d be more keen to do this if the link was coming off of American Express’s main website. Do you have any links to where it’s mentioned there?

  4. Too late to edit, but I see now the two links go to different places.

    The first one goes to:

    http://www.americanexpress.com/exxonmobil

It’s the second that goes to:

    http://americanexpress.com/copcashback

    Thanks for posting this.

  5. yd, I had a similar concern but the domain is AMEX’s. If you just type in amexnetwork.com into your browser, you’re taken to Americanexpress and Chrome (which integrates VeriSign for any Website you go to) confirms that the Website is owned by AMEX.

  6. Business cards are not eligible for this promotion. Boo!

  7. AmEx said that THEY have to solicit us directly for this offer . . . or the card we use is probably not eligible.

  8. Where I live (in the Seattle area) those gas stations are always 5-10% higher than other stations where I gas up, and not just low-cost Arco. It’s not a savings for me.

  9. Thanks for the information on the promos. Much appreciated.

  10. Those interested in keeping environmental, social or other ethical values in mind when purchasing gas, it might be good to know these gas stations rank near the bottom according to all the independent reports I’ve seen.

Americans spend a lot of money at the gas pump, and perhaps we should be more conscientious about which oil companies get our hard earned money.

  11. JP seems to be right. Here is the fine print on the offer page: “To be eligible for this offer, you must be the named recipient of this invitation and register any eligible American Express Card by January 19, 2011 at americanexpress.com/exxonmobil.”

I don’t think it’s worth it to register my card when I may not even get the extra 5% back since I didn’t receive the invitation. Jonathan, I appreciate all of the offers that you show us but please be more careful in the future to include important fine print like this.

  12. This offer was a banner on the main American Express website which is viewable by anyone, so I’m not really worried about the invitation part of the fine print. You also receive a confirmation e-mail upon successful registration.

It’s definitely good to read the fine print, but I did see that and had you guys covered. 😉

  13. Update: I just saw the banner again, so it’s definitely still live. I didn’t even log into my account yet, so it is definitely open to anyone. I suppose you could click on it explicitly if you wanted to, but the URL is exactly the same as listed above. It’s on the main page and probably rotates, so you might have to refresh a few times to see it.

  14. It definitely works. I’ve already had 5% of my first fill up credited back to my card. Thanks.

  15. Same here. Got it credited on my Fidelity Amex. Expecting a 2nd fill up to post shortly.

  16. This is working on my Costco Amex card:
    01/02/2011 EXXONMOBIL ***** AUTO FUEL DISPENSER -$25.95
01/05/2011 REGISTERED CARD PROGNEW YORK 5%off ExxonMobil $1.29

  17. Jonathan,

You were right. I did get 5% back on all 3 purchases I made with my Costco Amex. Thanks for the info.
