I need a stiff drink (update: better now, impressive product -- update Mar 29, no dial tone after six weeks use, read details)
Royal pain to set up with Mac El Capitan, tech support useless. Escalated to "high-level" tech support twice but none arrived. After waiting quite a while, my chat box closed, telling me "no agents available. Try again later." Neither of my Macs would recognize the device, nor would my router initially. After an afternoon of endless plugging/unplugging, rebooting, trial and error, I finally got the device to "upgrade" after which my router recognized it. It required a third go at tech support to get the device registered. Registration is only possible if the device is recognized online; can't be done through their website or tech support. After half a day, my router finally recognized the device, and I was able to complete the process. Online users say Windows 10 has similar issues. Will revisit this when I see if I have consistent phone service. Geez, my head hurts.Mar 29 update: Lost the dial tone about a week ago, customer support was no help, didn't want to talk warranty/replacement. BUT Facebook MJ reps were VERY helpful, now sending a replacement, waiving the $14 replacement cost. This is the third time I've gotten very good help from Facebook reps when online support failed. Unfortunately, this seems to be the routine now.Update, March 5, upgrading from 3 to 4 stars. Although it was a pain to set up with El Capitan and MJ kept promising a fix that didn't work, once I got the MJ working, it has been an impressive product. So many handy features, and I can even answer (or ignore) my landline when I'm away from home.Update March 26, no dial tone, handset dead, tech support zero help, escalated three levels and each was worse than the previous. The "expert" couldn't even understand the problem, kept telling me to make a "test call" even though I had no dial tone.

It took 3 days to port my number! Yay! I had a couple of snags in setting up my service. My credit card company blocked Magic Jack for fraud. There was no return message from the Magic Jack website when I tried to pay for porting my number ($23.79 w/ tax). The website kept returning me to the page for entering my card number. After the 3rd attempt, I used a different credit card. I called the credit card company and could find no evidence online that Magic Jack was hacked. The 2nd snag, which was my fault, I mistakenly connected the Magic Jack phone cable to the wall instead of the phone. Once I discovered my error, I had a dial tone. I tested the phone connection to and from using my cell phone. The outgoing voicemail message says I am a Magic Jack customer. I may keep this, it doesn't really bother me, but I can also change this. I made and received a call. The quality of the sound is even better than AT&T! I used the Magic Jack phone app to send a text; I'm waiting for a reply. Magic Jack even sent me an email to let me know my number was dialed; I didn't leave a message when I tested it using my cell but their email even contained a .wav file. I am impressed.
It's only Day 1. I will give it a full 30 days. But, I am very, very happy so far. I am so looking forward to ditching my AT&T landline bill, my Pioneer long distance bill and saving $$ for minutes and texts on my Tracfone.

Day 4 -- Used the Magic Jack app on my cell to make a call 2 days ago. I could hear clearly, however, the person I called could not hear me very well. Said there were popping sounds. Switched to my cordless phone. Same popping sounds. Turned on the computer. Big improvement. Sound quality was excellent. Received a call via the Magic Jack app (it has a different ring tone) yesterday. Again, popping sounds. Switched to cordless. No problem. The computer was already on when the call was made. I will try calls again with the computer off.

Day 6 -- Sound quality continues to be excellent using the cordless. There are popping sounds using the Magic App app on the cell.

Day 30+ -- Its been over 30 days. Magic Jack continues to be a fantastic service! A call came in on my cordless. My cell phone rang (because of the Magic Jack app). I took the cordless call on my cell! So convenient. It's like having 2 lines for the same number. The downside has been with AT&T. Because my landline was bundled with U-Verse, I lost the $10 credit for U-Verse. The monthly savings is only around $20/mo instead of $30/mo. However, because AT&T will be discontinuing landline service (starting next year in some states, they said) and because the landline bill continued to go up (due to fees), it's nice to have 2 fewer utility bills. The other utility bill that was discontinued was my long distance service with Pioneer. I now only have gas, electric and U-Verse bills to pay instead of 5. I only have to set aside $3 month for the annual renewal fee for Magic Jack. I'm happy.

Pretty good quality, the first thing I can tell that was different about this versus the phone service I had before (which was through my cable company) the volume was slightly lower than the cable company's. Besides that, it is exactly the same, I have the same number, the same features, the call waiting is a different sound that you might not even realize it is call waiting until it happens a few times. There is no problem with it working at all.
The MJ arrived fast, I am a Prime Member, but it took about 2 weeks for the transfer to be complete. There are additional fees to get this thing set up. It was about $5 to set up the 911 service, $10 to transfer my number, there was another $5 fee or 2, but I do not remember what it was for. But there is no way to compare this to a regular phone service because my bill for the home phone alone was over $40 a month, that was too much to pay and MJ was the answer. In total I probably paid about $75 for the first year with MJ. The device was $50 plus the other fees.
You do not need to transfer your number, you can obtain one for free with MJ, it is also a local number for your area.
If you buy this, the first year of service is included, unlimited local and long distance calling, you can buy international long distance for about $0.05 depending on the country.
To connect is very easy, the MJ plugs into a power outlet, it has 2 slots, one is to connect your phone, the other connects to your router. Thats it.

This product was purchased to replace landline service at in-law's house.

Packaging/ Presentation: The magicJack Go device was received in retail packaging that consisted of a paperboard box and plastic tray to hold everything in place and ensure safe transportation. The packaging was in a cardboard box with bubble packaging to keep everything in place.

Product: The magicJack Go adapter feels of quality design and not cheap. The adapter, itself, has a very small footprint and is easily hidden to maintain a clean work space. It can receive signal either attached to a router with an Ethernet cable or connected to a computer with a USB cable and handled with free software installed on the computer.

Service: This is my first experience with magicJack and I learned, first-hand, a few bits of information that I did not uncover in my research prior to purchase. These comments are not directed at the product, specifically, but the service the product comes paired with. My initial plan was to back-feed the phone signal through the wiring of the house to have connectivity where ever a phone jack was installed. However, setup instructions said not to do so. I, instead, bought a new 5 GHz cordless phone system with 5 handsets and placed a receiver in each room a phone was desired and connected the transmitter/ base unit to the magicJack device; this worked very well and solved the back-feed problem.

Other peculiar things about the service is that no matter what phone number you call, you must enter the area code. It is a bit annoying, but that's all. Also, phone numbers, such as a local business, that have features enabled on their calling plan through their provider are not contactable through magicJack's provisions. It is easily circumvented by using their mobile phones, but something I did not anticipate, or even imagine. While most problems are easily addressed, they do affect the ease and usability of this product. Phone number porting was available for their phone number which was a big convenience that was much appreciated. Even compared to other VoIP services with it's quirks factored in, this is considerably cheaper.

Other Thoughts: I bought this magicJack from Amazon's Warehouse Deals and was able to get a steep discount off of retail price and it came with 1 year of service included. After the first year, service is $35/ year. When compared to the $65/ month they were paying, this is a great value and saves them a lot of money.

I would recommend this product to anyone with an open mind that is able to adapt to problems as they arise. There are quirks and inconveniences, but that is all they are. The service is usable and very well paired with mobile phone service.

Magic Jack works with my modem. It's a perfect replacement for my standard phone line. And I can use my existing phones. My phone bill went from $45 per month with Bell to $45 per year with Magic Jack. So I save about $500/year. And Free long distance across America, voice mail etc... Sound quality is A-1
and I can bring my Magic Jack unit when I travel, plug it into any modem...and get my phone calls! Highly recommended.
