$100 Signup Bonus For Chase Checking Account
Chase Bank is offering a $75 $100 bonus for opening a “Free Checking” account with direct deposit. Thanks to SoonToBeKSGrad, who found it from the post office when moving. Chase will likely perform a hard credit check, they did for me. Selected fine print below:
Offer valid from 08/01/07 through 10/31/07. A $100 minimum opening deposit of new money … Reward will be automatically deposited into your new account within 10 days of account opening …. Chase Free Checking has no monthly service fee when you have a monthly direct deposit. Checking account must remain open for six months or the reward will be debited from the account at closing.

I received a similar offer in the mail. The reward was $100, and it was to be deposited 4-6weeks after the initial direct deposit. No credit check was done, as i had a Chase credit card(as far as i know).

@Dave:
After you wrote that, I investigated to see if I could find that $100 offer. Apparently you can change just change the “75″ in the URL to “100″, and voila:

In the fine print it reads “Chase Free Checking has no monthly service fee when you have a monthly direct deposit.”
Dave, have you been charged any service fees?

This fellow- bankbonuses.info -has a link to the $100 bonus, which must be opened in person at a branch. If you got a referral bonus on top of that, as Sri says, it would climb into the realm of one of the better cash-for-hard-pull deals out there .
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:14 pm
For some reason it says, “We’re unable to proceed with your request. The coupon code you have entered is either invalid or expired, or it has already been redeemed.”
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:48 pm
Updated to show $100, thanks.
August 2nd, 2007 at 12:50 pm
Paul – Everytime you use the link, it appears a new unique 16 digit code is generated. Maybe, if you time it just right (wrong), you might be sharing it with someone else. I’d try again later.
August 2nd, 2007 at 1:12 pm
I won’t be charged any service fees, as i do have a direct deposit to it. Note that my company allows you to split your deposit across multiple accounts. If someone else were to open a similar offer i could split my deposit between them and get the reward without incurring fees.
FYI: My particular offer had to be opened in person, with $100 opening deposit. It looks like this deal is even sweeter for you guys with the new link!
Referrals would be nice, but i’ll leave that to you guys.

By Direct Deposit, do they mean only deposit from an employer? or would an automatic transfer from another checking account suffice?
August 2nd, 2007 at 4:37 pm
“…and initiate a repeating direct deposit such as payroll, pension or Social Security.”
I guess automatic transfer is out.
August 2nd, 2007 at 4:54 pm
In most of these cases, an online transfer from another bank will work as direct deposit. Only the banks that actually check manually can tell the different, and the only bank that has done that for me is Presidential Bank.
August 2nd, 2007 at 6:26 pm
Check with the bank to see if billpay payments to the bank count as direct deposit. I found a similar offer with a local credit union and when i asked them if billpay from another checking account would qualify as direct deposit, the rep told me, “although it’s not technically what they had in mind, it will qualify”.
Also, direct debit qualifies for my new account, so it might also qualify on the Chase account.

Like oh my god! Another $100.00 Sweetkins! Now does a paypal transfer count as direct deposit? But like now how do I get the extra like $25? I could so put that towards the Gucci bag I want! Like when I get to LA I wanna have like a new look so that its not obvi that I am out of work!

hey cryptic sh1t from american express. i accidentially overpaid my account into a credit. so i called to get the credit sent back to me. they haven’t sent the check yet, but they sent a letter saying, “we’re investigating what created this credit, and if we determine the credit is invalid, we’ll tell you…” of course they’re saying they don’t want to be the fall guy for the 0% partiers. after months without offers, usbank pitched one this week.
August 2nd, 2007 at 11:10 pm
It is still saying ?We?re unable to proceed with your request. The coupon code you have entered is either invalid or expired, or it has already been redeemed.?
after many tries with different #s…
August 3rd, 2007 at 7:38 am
Hey guys, here is a question. If I monthly transfer $10 from my PayPal account or send a bill-payer payment to my new chase checking. Will it qualify as a direct deposit ? Wouldn’t it be too small ?
August 3rd, 2007 at 7:04 pm
Has anyone tested the ‘direct deposit’ comparison with a bank-to-bank transfer. I can set that up no problem, but i don’t want to deal with the offer if it does not count (no direct deposit from work available).
August 3rd, 2007 at 7:49 pm
hi
i refreshed the page couple of time for $100 ad, and after while i still keep getting
We?re unable to proceed with your request. The coupon code you have entered is either invalid or expired, or it has already been redeemed.?
August 3rd, 2007 at 8:43 pm
Hmm… maybe they pulled it or all the codes have been used. If possible, I would try printing it out and bringing it into a local branch.

JP and Sam,
Did you try using a different browser (IE or firefox)? Clear your cache and retry? Reboot and retry? Use a different computer or network? These things have helped me at times when a website didn’t like me.
JohnDiddler,
Please let us know how the AmEx ordeal works out. I have been wondering what would happen if I transfer a big chunk of money ($50,000) to a card without a balance and then they don’t want to give me a refund. Will they send it back to the originating 0% card, or force me to spend $50,000 on their card? That would suck. Any thoughts on this Jonathan? You mentioned before that MBNA doesn’t refund overpatments. So what do they do…trap your cash?
August 3rd, 2007 at 10:03 pm
I sent a BT to my MBNA/ Bank of America card about two months ago, and they sent it back to the originating 0% card. It originated from my Discover Miles card, and they refunded the 75 dollar BT fee.
August 3rd, 2007 at 10:40 pm
Scott,
Thanks for the experiment results! Glad they just reversed it, rather than trapping the money, which was my fear.

At the bottom of the second sign up page:
“Note: ….Your first box of checks will be ordered for you. They will arrive 7-10 business days after your account has been processed. Your account will be charged $22.95.”
Not sure if this applies to all three of the card options (Check Card, or two types of Credit Cards), but this is a deal breaker for me. My $100 is now about $77, which is still good, but out of principle I won’t pay $23 for a single box of cheap checks that my current bank gives me free.
Good deal, free money, unless you’re me. Or am I misinterpreting the small print?

The link doesn’t work for me either. I get a message that the coupon is invalid or expired as well. If someone knows a different link, please post.
Thanks.

Jake:
Since $100 would be reported on 1099-INT, Post tax you would only get $60 to $70. Then take out $23 from it for checks and it is only $37 to $47.
August 6th, 2007 at 11:14 am
You can also make an additional $50 (on top of the $100 and $25) by paying 3 bills online (by Aug 15th) on http://www.chase.com. Below are the offere details. (On a related note, if you want to avoid the check ordering fee, do what I did, and tell them not to order any. I opened this Chase bank account as a secondary one; plus I pay almost all my bills online, so I rarely use checks.)
Offer valid from 6/15/2007 through 8/15/2007. Online payments must be made to three new, unique payees by the 8/15/2007 program expiration date to receive the bonus. Multiple payments to the same payee will count as one payment towards the bonus. Limit one online bill payment-related reward/premium per customer, per calendar year. Offer not valid in combination with any other offers. Cash bonus will be automatically deposited into the customer’s checking account within 6 to 8 weeks after the offer expiration date. Cash bonus is considered miscellaneous income and may be reported on IRS Form 1099-MISC.
Offer limited to new Chase Online Bill Pay customers and customers who have not made an online bill payment in the past 90 days.
August 6th, 2007 at 12:50 pm
Was anyone able to apply online using the link. Refreshing the page several times generates a new code but when I try to apply online; always the same message – the coupon is invalid or expired
Is there a way to call and open the account via phone. I don’t have any Chase branches near me.
Thank you

So with these online banks, which ones have the best deposit options? Like if someone gives you a check, can you go deposit it in another bank?s ATM? like deposit it in a Wells Fargo ATM but it goes into your online bank account with your online bank?
If I am going to use it as my only bank, which one has the best deposit options? Free, of course.
August 9th, 2007 at 10:38 am
It says page not found when I clicked on the link. Any update?
August 11th, 2007 at 9:28 am
Got the $100! It has a unique code, so keep hitting refresh.
August 17th, 2007 at 11:30 am
Jonathan or anyone else who has done this,
If these banks (BoA, Chase, Citi) that require direct deposits in order to waive the fees accept an online transfer from another bank as a direct deposit do you just set up a monthly automated transfer from your originating bank to the bank that requires the DD? A lot of people on slickdeals are saying they use PayPal to do this, but you can’t set up any automated monthly transfers on PayPal. Also, is there a minimum amount of money that you have to transfer in order for it to qualify as a DD, or can you just do $1.00?
A post summarizing which banks accept this type of transfer as a DD requirement and which don’t would be an excellent resource.
